Home from surgery

Post by B'smom »

Hi everyone!

We arrived home yesterday from NYU Medical after our sons surgery. Dr. said it all went well. Bryce took a while to come around. He is such a mellow kid,I thought he'd just go with the flow. Low and behold he woke up 5 am yelling"get me out of here.I want to go home!" He was up and walking the next day. On top of all of this he went into surgery with the beginnings of a cold so it didnt help matters. We are both so happy to be home.

At home he has been quite angery. He asked me last night to take his cast off. He ended up sleeping with me and crying alot. He wants to sleep on his belly. So tonight I propped him with some pillows and he seems happier. He wants me to carry him around ect..I told him I would help him but he needs to learn to help himself and I will help him to find new ways to do things.I keep reinforcing that I am here for him.Today he did much better and is geting back to his old self. We took him to church and he was off playing with his friends.

Today his grandmother brought him over some Thomas the tank cars and he went in the other room. A few minutes later we were looking for him. He called from upstairs that he was playing with his trains. I was so worried about him on the stairs(still am!) and here he went and got up all by himself!I think he will be fine.We go in 2 weeks to remove the dressings.

Thank you everyone for all of your good wishes and prayers.

May I ask, what surgery did he have? Welcome home and hope that Bryce returns to normal quickly.-Kari

Hi Felicia...

Glad to hear that things went ok with the surgery. Sometimes it takes the kids a while to settle in afterwards. Is he sleeping ok?

and how are YOU doing?
big hugs - this is hard stuff, isn't it?

Kari,

Bryce has muscle tendon transfer and some work on his shoulder. Shaved away some over the coricoid process and reset the bone in the socket.

Today was his 3rd day home from hospital and I swear this son of mine will give me grey hairs!!I am so happy to see him back to normal and wanting to be independent but he is up to his usually wild boy antics too! Nothing is stopping this kid. I just dont want any more injuries!!! His big sister has been so nice too and that all seemed to go out the window today too by 5pm. Everything is back to normal happy to report!!!
I'm doing much better being he is sleeping better. Last night he slept until 4:30 and was then with me. He tried to get comfortable and finally went down for another hour.I propped his belly with a pillow so he can be more rested in the side lying postion.
The size of this cast still amazes me in comparison to the size of him. He is very petite.
Thanks for all of your concern,
Felicia
