scoliosis

Post by Lisa D »

To the person looking for documentation on scoliosis, I found this while searching TCH's site:
"Long-term Outcome after Obstetric Brachial Plexus Injury -
Brachial plexus injuries cause severe functional deficits in the affected extremity. The full extent of the arm and hand deficits may not be known for several years. Additionally, upper body posture may be altered as a result of compensatory maneuvers used to deal with poor positioning of the shoulder and arm."

Thanks Lisa D. Does TCH have a booklet or something made up on this stuff? I know that I could use some it when Katie has her reviews with EI and her disability hearings.

They do have a pamphlet that you can print out in PDF format, however I wasn't able to do that (slow connection) so I don't know exactly what it says. However, there is a very long summary of BPI written by them that you can direct your attorney's to. I've forwarded the information to ours. The address is www.texaschildrenshospital.org. You could also call the BPI center and ask them if they have something more specific.

This may help try Long term outcome section. [scoliosis is an unnatural curvature of the spine]The muscle imbalances created by the BPI injury create scoliosis due to the difference in the pressure they create on the spine causing an unnatural curve. Hope this is easy to understand.
