New baby coming
We just found out we are going to have our 2nd child in early June. Boy this time is sure different from the last time. I will be taking control this time and the Doctors will listen this time around because I have the power of knowledge. I do have a question for all you post BPI deliveries. I was told the second time around to have a C-Section (thank God) and do it early (before the baby drops). I call this the locked and loaded position. Can anyone share their C-Section experience with me? Did you deliver prior to your due date? Thanks Tina.
Re: New baby coming
Congratulations! What great news...and your right, this time will be very different!!! I had my second baby this past July, 4 days after my 1st child's second birthday. Things went extremely well. I had a planned c-section, 9 days prior to her due date and she was 8 lbs, 8 oz - healthy as can be. The recovery was a breeze compared to the 1st time (4th degree and all). The one hard thing was the inability to drive for 2 weeks and the inability to pick up the older child for 6 weeks. You find ways to work around it though. We made sure to continue her therapy schedule - managed to only miss 1/2 weeks worth of therapy.
After about 6 months, we did a lot of reading about being a big sister, we got her a real baby-sized doll and I gave her some hand-me-down newborn outfits for her doll as I got baby #2's clothes ready, and we had grandparents come out a week before the delivery date and they stayed one month after. (I have no family nearby so them coming out to stay was an enormous help). We lucked out and have a really easy-going second baby, which helps -because my first baby still needs to be in constant touch with me.
Feel free to email me with any questions or concerns. My bit of advice now, since you will most likely have a c-section, start interviewing all the obs in your practise in terms of their surgery skills and experience. One of the luxuries of a planned c-section is you can basically pick the dr. that you want to do the delivery.
Best wishes - Lisa D.

Tina,
Congratulations!
Happy to hear that the worries of the delivery are solved for you. I had a c-section myself for the birth of my son oh so many years ago now.

~~~~Congratulations~~~~~~~~~~
Thats wonderful news. I had an elected c-section last year and found it a very positive expereicne compared to my 2 vaginal births(both with 3rd degree tears etc..)I was told everything that would happen and felt more in control. I had a combined epidural/spinal and remained awake felt no pain. Little boy was born weighing in at 8 Ibs 12oz nearly 2 weeks early with high apgars. Hubby took some time off as it takes a while to recover but was relieved to have a healthy baby.
Somewhere on the net I recall seeing a birth plan for elected section so u can specify if u wish to hold baby straight away etc..(if I can locate will give u URL)
All the best
Hugs
Congradulations!
Well, I had my second child (first was bpi) a year ago. I did a planned C-section. I also went on insulin shots at 32 weeks. (was normal at the 28 check up but got it later.) My doctor was not comfortable doing a c section before 38 weeks. So on the 39 week I had a planned C section. I was very glad I did. My daughter was 9lbs 2 ounces and 20 inches. My son delivered normally and BPI was 9lbs 9 ounces 23 inches. The C section was so much easier and I could not believe how pretty she looked. No bruises. Her apar score was 9 my son's was 1. Make sure you stick to the C section. My doctor said he would go with my wishes but always put the option of lets try normal. But I said no I do not want to try. C section was so much easier. I was in the hospital three days and then went home. I was walking by the next day with pain medicine. With my son, I stayed in the hospital five days and that was the normal delivery. Well congradulations again.
TINA!! congratulations!!
A suggestion I have for you is for your doctor to write a letter about your history and the need for a c-section so that you and your husband keep it in your wallets... this is in case you go into labor spontaneously before your planned c-section and another doctor meets you at the hospital and wants to let you 'try' again. This way you will have your ammunition - like a c-section prescription.
Have a wonderful pregnancy!!! >
