Looking for who you may have used for surgery and therapy

Post by richinma2005 »

We are going to be adding pages specifically for TBPI when our new software is ready, and we want to make it easier to find specialists who can help the TBPI community.

While many centers treat only OBPI, we are looking for centers who will see both children and adult TBPI.

So if you can, please either post here or email richard@ubpn.org so I can put the information together. I am also searching throughout the net for centers as well

Thanks for your help.

In response,
This is who I've been seeing, and who did my surgery as a result of my LTBPI from a motorcycle accident. I have no idea if he treats kids as I'm 31.

Rich, James goes to Mayo in Mn. Drs. Bishop, Spinner & Shin. His therapist is Nancy Murphy in Charlotte, NC (Charlotte Institute of Rehabilitation). Dr. Maureen Nelson (PM&R) is also in Charlotte, NC. They all work closely together for James and have been amazing since his accident in 2003.

Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: I am the wife of Rick, LTBPI. On 6/30/2008, our lives were forever changed. Rick was in a severe auto accident and sustained multiple injuries: broken jaw and facial bones, mild traumatic brain injury, L1 fracture, 4th cranial nerve palsy and LTBPI. With regard to the LTBPI, Rick has had an ulner nerve transfer (January 2009). We are now considering next steps in his treatment, perhaps some muscle transfers. Pain continues to be the worst thing about his injury. We are told that the pain goes away within five years or people have learned to deal with it. Meanwhile, we pray....and wait.

Rich,

Rick goes to Dr. Lynda Yang at University of Michigan Hospital, Ann Arbor. They have a Brachial Plexus Clinic there.

Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: RTBPI - injured during a right cervical rib resection on 12/3/2008 for thoracic outlet syndrome. The doctor completely transected the lateral cord at C5-C6 Erb's pointe and the suprascapular nerve. Had a nerve repair done on 12/12/2008 to reattach the nerves. Did two years of OT. I have some issues with overuse issues with my left shoulder and also have come to find that my joints are hypermobile so I have instability in the joints which causes a lot of problems such as pressure and pain.

Hi.

I had Dr. Alexander Mih from the Indiana Hand Center perform my surgery. He mainly works with infant BPIs but I was referred to him and he performed my surgery - so I believe he also does adults TBPI, just not as often.

I also was referred to John E. McGillicuddy at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. I spoke with their office and they seem really good, but because of the situation with my injury and miscommunication (not U of Michigans fault at all though) I had already scheduled surgery with Dr. Mih.

Both have great credentials though. I had an excellent experience with Dr. Mih.

bump

The information from here, will help us identify therapists and facilities that we are going to put into a separate area for those seeking information for TBPI. So if you haven't replied, consider doing so, it will help others
