Susie

Knock on wood, no problems with any of that yet. Aside from BPI my little guy has been real healthy, almost 2 and no ear infection yet. Feel lucky so far. I know a few kids who have had problems with pnemonia, etc. and none of them had any problems or injuries at birth. I think it is so hard to correlate the two. It is just so hard to tell if the child would've had those issues any way. I would really suspect a relationship though if the child had nerve damage to the diaphragm, needed oxygen early on, etc. Sure glad your son is feeling better and hope the caugh stops soon.

My son was just hospitalized for bilateral pneumonia for 7 days. He was also in the hospital in June for the same thing and has been 5 other times. I have no idea if it is related to the BPI. They tell me it isn't. HE is having a lung cat scan on the 30 of this month.

Interesting.......My son was just diagnosed with pneumonia on Mon. night. The pneumonia is on his right lung and he has a RT. BPI. Nicholas is still splinted at night, he is 10 weeks post caps surgery and the Dr. treating him said the splint could have made him more susceptible to pneumonia since he is not moving well and his breathing at night is more constricted with the splint etc. They did recommend we take the splint off for a week or so even though he has two weeks left at night because of his pneumonia. We talked to Dr. Nath and said it was ok to take it for a week until he is feeling better then put it back on for the last week at night. None of my kids have ever had pneumonia until now. Maybe there is some correlation, not sure, but interesting to think about. Stacey

Yes, c4 is for the diaphragm. My son has had alot of
lung complications, from RSV, to pnemonia numerous times, to acute and chronic, now, asthma problems.
He had problems breathing and eating little on.
He also puked a lot. It seems it is definetly a weakness in
bpi children.

Hi - my son is 11 and hes also has not had serious problems in the past. When he was a baby, he had asthma and that went away at 6 months. Just lately he went into the hospital with lung pnuemonia - more particular, micoplasma. He has been in there for 10 days already and I am feeling so frustrated with the results. He is a hockey player and very active in all other sports. I just need to know if this will affect his future in sports at all.
