Chest Muscle Atrophy
Chest Muscle Atrophy
My daughter has been saying that her chest muscle has atrophied so much on the affected side that her breast is sagging more than her unaffected side. Do any of you women have similar problems? At age 23, she is very concerned with this. Thanks, Sue
Re: Chest Muscle Atrophy
I'm so sorry, I do not have the problem. My accident happened at 17 and now 4 kids later and almost 40 they seem to be fine. (funny to say that). What nerves have been effected? Mine are C5,6 and 7; avulsed. Maybe its a different nerve that caused that to happen to your daughter. If its really bothering her I'm sure she could get that side lifted and paid for by insurance. I have had plastic surgery for years due to injury, and botox under my arm for sweating. If her sagging is proven by doctor due to her injury your insurance is likely to pay for it but you'll have to put up a fight. But I am the poster person of plastic surgery due to this injury. Insurances also don't question Mayo clinic very often. I can give you the name of my doctor at Mayo if you are interested.

Re: Chest Muscle Atrophy
All 5 of Mel's nerves were avulsed and when they did her nerve and muscle transfers, the Mayo team said all of her sensory nerves in her chest were crushed, so they couldn't use any of them. I definintely would like the name of your plastic surgeon. She was referred to one at the Mayo clinic (don't know the name right now), but I had suggested she go back there just because her nervous system anatomy is so different and they could easily consult the Brachial Plexus team. I'm just so worried some other doctor would slice into something he's not aware of! Thanks so much, Sue
Re: Chest Muscle Atrophy
My doctor is Dr Craig Johnson at Mayo Clinic, 12th floor. He is the chief of Staff in Plastics/reconstructive surgery. I am also seeing Dr Jacobson, also a doctor in plastics at Mayo. I will be there on Wed. the 17th of this month. Dr Johnson and his nurse Suzy are amazing. He has done so much for me and my appearance. It is not very easy to look at from a woman's point of view. I am so sorry she has this disfigurement from our injury. Please stay in touch with me and anything you need please just ask. If you need anything else, like his number, let me know.

Thanks so much for the info. I'm gonna see who the doctor is at Mayo that she is seeing. I'll keep in touch. Sue
