just wondering if any bpi's were able to obtain a handicapped parking pass. i asked once but was denied. i think we should be able to get these passes. i mostly want it due to the fact i find it alot easier to get in and out of my truck with the door fully open. handicapped stalls are always wider than regular stalls. and in regular stalls, you always get the wingnut parking mere inches away from you....with a load of groceries this is a real pain.
well that's my thought for this evening....just wondering if it bothers anyone else.

Yup..I couldn't agree more...I must admit that we use the mum and baby slots sometimes in supermarket car parks...for the same reasons..there's more space to get in and out.

Changing the disabled parking 'rules' here in the U.K. to include people with a BPI is something that I have my sights set on...individually, we can't change things but together as a group...who knows?

Here in the states we can get a handicapp parking tag.

I of course never thought I was disabled so I never applied... but I really need it... and I will go get it. The doctor suggested it along time ago so that I would not carry heavy things to far or push carts of groceries to far... even pocketbooks should be lighter and never held on bpi shoulder... ops guess your out on that one... lol...

Here all we need to do is pick up a form from our town hall and have the doctor sign it. We then are issued a tag to hang from the mirror if we need to use it. Some folks use it all the time and others use it only if they have to carry anything it really just depends on your needs.

The powers that be here seem to think that if you can walk a certain distance without it causing any physical distress (for instance if you have a heart problem and cannot walk far without getting severely breathless) then you can manage without the badge. I know personally of someone who had TWO broken ankles but because he could walk the required distance, with the aid of sticks, he was refused even a temporary one. I guess as this world gets more crowded, space for parking can sometimes become a real big issue.

PS; I am not bothered about this personally because I can't drive anyway, and I always have someone with me to carry stuff if I go shopping....I have never even bothered to apply...it's just the injustice and abuse of the system makes me mad.

i agree Liz B, with the fact that persons abuse the privilege. personally i like parking far away, so as to enjoy a short walk, but with a load of what have you, a pass would help me as much as a "disabled" person.
i still don't consider myself disabled. at work, i'm an ironworker, i love showing up anyone on the crew who says "I can't do it!". i'll get out there and easily do it. chumps.

anyways i'm gonna talk to my doc about getting a pass. y not. could also come in handy for when you gotta just run in quickly. lol.

I am in Portugal (yes.. the litle one on the europe atlantic coast...) and have no problem to get the handicapp parking tag. The problem is that moust times there is a smart guy park on the handicapp place with no tag...

Yeah we get the same thing here too...I have a disabled friend who puts a leaflet under the windscreen wiper of the car parked illegally in the disabled space saying "You have my parking space, would you like my disability too??"

...I hope it makes them think twice about doing it again..

i think that if i needed a disabled stall and there was a car parked there without a pass, i would leave a leaflet saying, "since you like these disabled spots when you are not, how do you feel about your car being disabled?", as i deflate their tires....
mean i know, but....i'd also leave my name and # on the leaflet. so if they got a problem, i'd solve it...
