Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: January 1980 Yamaha RD200 vs 16 wheeler truck, result, 1 totally paralysed right arm. I was 21, now 54. I had no surgery, I don't regret this. Decided to totally ignore limitations (easily done aged 21) adapted very quickly to one handed life, got married, had 3 kids, worked- the effect of the injury on my life (once the pain stopped being constant) was minimal and now, aged 54, I very rarely even think of it, unless I bash it or it gets cold, then I wish I'd had it amputated :) Except for a steering knob on my car, I have no adaptations to help with life, mainly because I honestly don't think of myself as disabled and the only thing I can't do is peel potatoes, which is definitely a good thing.

Krista (or anyone) I have an email address for Hazel's family, should you wish to send your condolences to them. If you mail me on jennybradley@xtra.co.nz I'll give it to you.

Thanks for your kind thoughts everyone.

this message is from bobbie who wishes to say that she thought Hazel was a real trooper, she wished she could have done more for Hazel and that she will dearly miss her.

To Jenny, Liz, Tina, Kath, Mikey, Dave, and the many other friends of Hazel,

I'm so sorry for your loss, for all of our loss. I am very shocked and saddened by this news. I feel bad b/c I haven't been around the "adult" boards much for a long time and had no idea that Hazel was suffering like this. She was so kind and always made me feel "welcome" on the board. I will miss her and I know that so many of you here will miss her too. My condolences go out to Hazel's family and friends. I hope to meet crazy Haze someday in a paradise right here on the earth when our bodies will be made new and will be perfect and pain free (Psalms 37:29; Isaiah 35:5,6; Revelation 21:3,4). Gosh, if she had that great and funny of a personality when she was in so much pain, then she'll really be a trip when she's living without pain. I'm glad that she's not suffering anymore, but am so sorry that it had to come about this way. The boards will not be the same...

Thank you, Jen and Liz for posting this. It must have been very difficult to do.

Sadly, Tina, Mom to Nicole (3 y.o. with LOBPI)

I also met Hazell at Liz's bash and she really was the centre of it all. She'll be deeply missed by myself and many, many others

Hard to put these kind of feelings down on a message board.

All I can say I wow...

Haze will be missed by all. Her crazy sense of humor was a bright spot on this board. I will miss her posts some which really hit the heart of all of us. I missed her when she was in the Hosie and prayed for her then. I guess we can all take comfort in knowing she is finally painfree. Hopefully shes tipping back a cold one smiling down on us all.

We all Loved Haze and she'll not be forgotten.

I am very sorry to hear that Hazel took her life. As somebody looking on and not with the injury it is very disturbing to me to know that the pain is that unbearable. I have tried several times to get some sense from my son just how bad the pain is but with not experiencing it myself there is no way I can imagine. It is even more heartbreaking and sad to know that after 20 years of enduring such pain that Hazel just couldn't take it anymore. I truly hope there is a hereafter and that she is there pain free now.
