Hi everyone...I have noticed that my daughter's head is flat in the back on her injured side. Our PT said we will keep an eye on it and she told me to try and do side laying and more belly time. She doesnt always keep her head to the injured side (I forget that term)...and she looks to the uninjured side just fine. I do notice that she favors looking to the injured side when sleeping though so that must be causing the flat head problem. Could any problems come from her head being flat and what else could I do to help it? Thanks!

flat head?
Re: flat head?
My daughter had a broken clavical on her left side along with a BPI so for the first six weeks I had to lay her on the right side. I started noticing that the left side of her face was flatter than her uninjured side. I pointed this out to the TCH Neurologist but she was not concerned. She said eventually things will even out and it has. I am guessing around 5 to 6 months her little face was perfectly proportioned.
Re: flat head?
It needs to get really pronounced before there's a problem and needs to last a long time. I asked my pediatrician the same question because Josh had a flat spot on his uninjured side. Josh's flattening started to get better around 3 months of age, and it's still a little flatter at 8.5 months.
Our OT did make us a pillow out of foam to help reduce the pressure on the flat spot while he slept. She carved out the foam a little deeper where the flat spot was to reduce the pressure on his head when he lay down.
Also, do lots of tummy time and always try to stimulate her to turn to the opposite side to maintain range of motion in her neck.
