Both of these surgeries have been recommended for my daughter. I'd like to hear from any parents on their experiences with either of these. I'm concered that with the bicep lengthining by cutting the muscle she'll lose strength and her are will be weaker then before, although maybe cosmetically will look better. As far as the capsulodesis I'd like to hear from anyone who's child has had good or bad results with this surgery. My daughter has had the muscle/tendon transfer surgery in Los Angeles two years ago, and has much more movement then before. However her doctor in LA doesn't do the capsulodesis, instead waits until the children are 6-7 to do the Osteotomy. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Dawn,
I tried to email you but it said no matches found. I am wondering if your Dr explained the osteotomy to you and what you think of it. We don't have experience with caps or bicep lenthing, so I am not able to help you with that, but there are several here who do. Dr. Nath has recommended the osteotomy for my son Peyton in about 8 or 9 months instead of the caps so I am looking for info on it. I'm sure people will respond with their experiences, I hope you find what you are looking for. Good luck.

Re: Capsulodesis/bicep lengthining
Hi Dawn, Our son Nicholas had the caps done last Mon. Aug. 5 so don't know the results yet. Dr. Nath did his surgery. He did recommend the caps and bicep lengthening based on his video but when we got there he evaluated him again and felt his bicep was fine so he only did the caps. It seemed quite simple he was in surgery only 35 min. with Dr. Nath then it took another 30-45 min. to suture and splint him. He was in very little pain. Infact he only had straight tylenol when he came out of recovery and went through the night without anything. The therapy after the 12 weeks of splinting will be intense but his arm will be in a more natural position. He was 75% dislocated at the time of his surgery. Hope this helps a little. We wont know more until the splint comes off. Good Luck. Stacey
Re: Capsulodesis/bicep lengthining
hi - we had the capsulodesis surgery done on our daughter. She was dislocated and was in a lot of pain and we believe we had no choice. They put the bone back in and tightened the tendons holding it in place. We learned that additional damage to the bone could have been done had we not done this surgery, so in essence it was a very easy decision to make (although surgery is never something you WANT to do).
Maia was splinted for 8 weeks 24/7 and 8 weeks nighttime only but I understand that the timing is customized by child and by the child's issues.
I'd be happy to answer any specific questions.
