POOR MAIA!!

Sorry she's not feeling well!

My grandma used to blow menthol cigarette smoke into our ears (only time she'd smoke is when one of the kids had an earache...she kept a pack in case of emergencies!!)

Also, a few years ago, I had a terrible ear ache and Gregg heated up brandy and dropped it in my ear with a medicine dropper. It really worked well. (And NO, it wasn't because I drank the rest of the hot brandy...yuck)

Hope she feels better soon. Sounds like Debbie Jean had some great advice!!

just another thought on the smoke in the ears idea, over here in the Uk I have seen a herbalist place a lighted long candle in the ear - don't be alarmed!
I think, but my memory may be misleading me, it's called a hopi candle?? perhaps some Mums out there know more about it?? The herbalist was using it on a child of about 2 years and the child was totally relaxed throughout the whole process.
Any mums know any more about this?

Actually Karen - this is called ear candling and a few years ago I had this done for me for ear pain during my aquatic training and I had put oil in my ear that morning...well the heat from the ear candle in combination with the oil burned my ear! Youch!! I stay away from them...and don't know that Maia would even sit with a lit candle hanging over her either and I would completely understand!!

I did hear about water and hydrogen peroxide....

Wow this is some list guys!!
Thanks!

Francine, we use the 2 parts water to 1 part peroxide solution in a dropper after we get out of the pool. It dries the ear canal out and prevents swimmers ear. Also with the heat and sweat here it helps to keep the ear dry.

Francine

Another suggestion.... my granddaughter 1 year old Katie had her ear cleaned out today... They could not see into her ear at all for a while and did not want to do it....

They first put in colace (spelling the stool softener) in liquid form to soften the wax and it was so much lest traumatic... and it worked her ear is wax free and they are putting peroxide in her ear at night when she sleeps to see if it can be kept clear until her specialist appointment....

As for old methods my Mom use to rub camphor oil behind our ears... don't remember if it works or not....
May this will help with the wax issue...

O.K. I have nothing against using smoke for medicinal purposes but I would rig up a syringe to do the blowing...it would be aweful to ruin your own health while trying to help your child!!!

Some kids actually get ear infections because their parents smoke in the house?????

I have issues with the smoke because my dad died a horrible death thanks to smoking.
