Was the accident your fault? I was a passenger on the bike so I got a settlement but nothing that anyone can live on.
As far as help from the state that depends on the state you live in. I, however, receive no disability. I am 39 and my accident was 20+ yrs ago. I wanted to go into the medical field (not much I can do with an arm that is 90% useless, although there is a women that graduated from Nursing school from Canada) I was 17 and the future ahead of me but with the accident life took me in a different direction. I am a stay at home mom of 4. It doesn't mean that I wont have a career. I am still taking college classes and someday I will figure out what I'm suppose to do:)
I am so sorry. To be the sole provider for your family has to be stressful. You will learn how to do things differently with one arm/hand but I don't know your limitations. That's depends on the severity of your injury. And will you have surgery to gain more movement?
All these factors weigh on your future. But I understand in the mean time you need relief right now.
I pray for the best for you. Stay strong and look in to what you are entitled to as far as aid. You are going to have to fight!!!

Re: disability
keep trying for disability because you should not be denied..I had auto accident 3-07 got my disability 3-08...there is a clause in social security for bpi...I didnt use a lawyer my mom notified our sentator and they help me..I was gonna get a lawyer but my mom said wait because she thinks lawyers keep it going as long as they can because that is a bigger chunk for them.
