Military Family Needs Info

Post by TedWadsworth »

I am in the military and the father of a 7 year old (born Sep 94) with Erb’s Palsy. We are trying to find other military families with children around our son’s age for information on military treatment options. The military has been no help, maybe you can. Please help. Thanks Ted

Hi there. My name is Julia and I have an 11 year old with R-Erbs. We are active duty army and are stationed on Fort Lewis. What branch are you? We are not getting equal and fair treatment and this is my main passion of informing military docs of what is out there and to get our kiddos referred to the right specialists. Its nutso. I just chewed the ear of some pediatricians at Madigan a couple of weeks ago.

I am leaving for vacation on Thursday and will be home on the 10th of December. Please email me so I can contact you when I return.

Thanks.

Julia

Julie

Thanks for responding. Let me start by saying I am sorry to hear that your child has suffered a BPI. I know the pain and difficulty that you, your family and child have gone through. I would love to hear more about your experience. What past treatment has he/she received? What is his/her prognosis?

I am in the Army. My boy William is seven and has a left side C5/6 BPI. Despite hundreds of appointments with dozens of military doctors, William's arm went untreated until it was too late for the most effective treatment strategy to work. This has resulted in a lifetime disability. We are trying to find any other military families who have a BPI child around his age. We would like to find if any of these children were referred for nerve graft surgery anytime before the Summer of 1996. Do you know anyone like this?

Thanks again for the note. I would love to chat with you sometime. Best to you all.

Hi,

I have a four year old son with LBPI. We're at Ft. Campbell, KY. It's been a very difficult four years, but our EFMP has been wonderful in helping find the right care. Please email me if you have specific question, I'm not sure where to start. Best wishes to you and your family.

Julia, This is Bryan Swift, We talked just before the summer camp and then met there. We are having a very difficult time with the TDY, I was wondering if you might have an old copy of your tdy orders or somthing in writting that will help us prove that it can be funded. Kenta just had his modquad on 15 OCT, every thing was supposed to be taken care of and when we returnd the claim was denied. Now im stuck with a 1400$ bill just before Christmas. Bryan Swift

Hi Army people, I mean Hooooah! We are Army National Guard, so we depend on our secondary income to pay for BPI related things. It must be really difficult dealing with this stuff and going through VA's. We will dig around and see if the people here in our state know anything. Our little girl is almost a year now and had the mod quad about 4 weeks ago. Impressive results so far. Well, if nothing else you all have our support and the people here are pretty knowledgeable about these things. My husband is split training this week to make up for the surgery, so he will ask around and see what we come up with. What do you guys do in the Army? If it is privy info, you can email me. Hope you know that JAG can help you. If nothing else you can sue for future expenses, and hopefully the case won't drag on. Otherwise I guess there is a VA Hardship loan, but you have to pay it back of course. Since we are not active duty and we are lowly E-4's you probably know more than we do. nonetheless, we will try to see what we can find. Good luck. Please let us know how your children are doing! God Bless. We will keep you in our prayers.
