Ideas

Post by MWhitted »

Hi everyone,

I just had our 3 month meeting with our OT and Early Intervention casemanager and as we looked at his goals from the last time, Amaru unfortunately did not reach them. I need some help. Currently Amaru's biggest problem is that he does not use his hand. He refuses to hold things (but can if you put something in it)and consistently removes them from his right hand if you put something in. Also, he is seems to be using his right leg as his arm. He does not reach for anything and objects to any purposeful use. I need help!

What kind of things did you do to help your kids realize he has another hand he could use. I am concerned that he is adapting so well at being one handed. I feel frustrated and like I am letting him down. I know that after this revelation, I am going to have a serious talk with his doctor next month. He is 15 months old. I would appreciate any advice given or ideas to help with his treament. Thanks!

Maria,

What is Amaru's hand and wrist functionality? Knowing that will help us come up with some ideas to help.

Well he doesn't really seem to have much. I mean his finger stretch and twitch and his wrist is not always in the relaxed position. Theres potential he just refuses to use it. Like I said he can grasp items but he either grabs it with his left hand or releases by bringing his hand up in supine and it falls out. Does this make sense?
