Shoulder being displaced
Shoulder being displaced
Just wondering if anyone has experienced this and has some ideas. My husband's arm is continuing to progress nicely, we are still waiting on his shoulder area....his superspinadis is firing, but very atrophied and we think his deltoid is starting to twitch some, but again, after 6 months it is also quite atrophied. He has been ding ROM exercises and PT religiously, but his physical therapist said this week that his shoulder is pushing significantly forward in the joint due to the significant difference in muscle mass from the front of his shoulder/chest to the back of his shoulder. I assume this can't be all that uncommon, is there anything to do about it?? We'll be back at Mayo in a two weeks and can get some info then, but just thought I would ask around here. TIA

Hi Bensmom!
Good to hear that everything is progressing well with your husband. As far as the shoulder goes, some therapist have used kinesio tape to help keep the shoulder in the position that they would like while they are waiting for the surrounding muscles to fire and hold that should up where it should be. You may want to ask your therapist about that and give it a try. Great to hear that your husband is getting a good recovery. Good luck at Mayo in the next couple of weeks!

Re: Shoulder being displaced
While we waited for Dustin's shoulder to strengthen we had the same forward sublex as you are talking about. He used this sling http://www.alimed.com/ProductDetail.asp ... id1=&oid2=
Because all the straps are adjustable on the arm cuff and at the shoulder we were able to pull it back and up into place. His OT ordered it for him.
