sign language
Has anyone learned how to do sign language with just one hand? Where can I go for more info? Thanks.

Frankie learned some in 3rd grade because there was a deaf child in his class so the whole class was taught and he did very well using just his right hand The school system taught eric that was the little boys name he had a therapist that worked with him.

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: LOBPI. I am 77 yrs old and never had a name for my injuries until 2004 when I found UBPN at age 66.
My injuries are: LOBPI on upper body and Cerebrael Palsy on the lower left extremities. The only intervention I've had is a tendon transplant from my left leg to my left foot to enable flexing t age 24 in 1962. Before that, my foot would freeze without notice on the side when wearing heels AND I always did wear them at work "to fit in" I also stuttered until around age 18-19...just outgrew it...no therapy for it. Also suffered from very very low self esteem; severe Depression and Anxiety attacks started at menopause. I stuffed emotions and over-compensated in every thing I did to "fit in" and be "invisible". My injuries were Never addressed or talked about until age 66. I am a late bloomer!!!!!
I welcome any and all questions about "My Journey".

Check with any Early IE Program in your area and ask their Speech Therapist, or, the Speech Therapy Dept at your Children's Hospital.

Carolyn sounds like she has a good idea. If you don't find any answers there let me know and I can ask my sister. She was born profoundly deaf. There is a whole community of deaf people around here but unless you know a deaf person you probably wouldn't know about all the support for them.

Great Idea too, Sue.
Go ahead and ask your sister. I've always wanted to do Sign language.I can do 2 or 3 "hand signals", ie., "money" and "Restroom", "more" & that's about all I can remember from my working days in an IE program...LOL;
I've only been retired for 11 yrs!..watch out, MOms, you have to keep using what you learn or you lose it. [btw, too much stress does it too.
Anywhooo Sue, I'd like to know what your sister says. I can re-learn it!!

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: LOBPI, had surgery when I was 9- they moved muscles and tendons from one side of my arm to the other side. I can lift my arm to about my eye level, can't straigten it all the way and can't completely supinate my wrist.

During my sophomore year at college I learned quite a bit of sign language! I have use of my affected arm but I wasn't able to do some of the sings completely correctly, but I have had encounters with people who are hearing impaired and they understand my sign just fine. most signs that you do with both hands you can adapt to do only with one and the words should be understood!
