update on me...

Post by MB15 »

I saw my orthopaedic surgeon and the neurologist on Tuesday (I have a TBPI due to total shoulder replacement surgery on 7-18-07...all nerves are regenerating except the axillary and suprascapular) and they started to talk about surgical options but I must have had a horrified look on my face b/c my otho said "and I'm guessing by the look on your face that surgery is the last thing you want to do." I told them I would really like a little more time, that I know there's a window where surgery would have a greater chance of success, but that I am very motivated to beat this thing w/o surgery.

So, they gave me three months. I go back April 22 and hopefully by then I will have made some progress and surgery will be a mute point.

Wish me luck!

Thanks for all the well wishes!!! I'm hoping and praying I've made some progress by the end of April when I go back to the doctor.

I know surgery is an option but I am terrified to even think about it. After coming out of my total shoulder replacement last summer with the BPI, I cannot imagine letting them put me to sleep again without knowing what will happen when I wake up. If I end up on that road, it's going to horrifying for me.

I'm actually thinking about seeing a psychiatrist who can hopefully help me navigate these very murky waters. I'm not giving up hope, but I also feel I need a plan to help me cope if I'm not better in a few months.

Thanks again, everyone!!! This site is so great!
