- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: LOBPI. I am 77 yrs old and never had a name for my injuries until 2004 when I found UBPN at age 66.
My injuries are: LOBPI on upper body and Cerebrael Palsy on the lower left extremities. The only intervention I've had is a tendon transplant from my left leg to my left foot to enable flexing t age 24 in 1962. Before that, my foot would freeze without notice on the side when wearing heels AND I always did wear them at work "to fit in" I also stuttered until around age 18-19...just outgrew it...no therapy for it. Also suffered from very very low self esteem; severe Depression and Anxiety attacks started at menopause. I stuffed emotions and over-compensated in every thing I did to "fit in" and be "invisible". My injuries were Never addressed or talked about until age 66. I am a late bloomer!!!!!

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: I am ROBPI, global injury, Horner's Syndrome. No surgery but PT started at 2 weeks old under the direction of New York Hospital. I wore a brace 24/7 for the first 11 months of my life. I've never let my injury be used as an excuse not to do something. I've approach all things, in life, as a challenge. I approach anything new wondering if I can do it. I tried so many things I might never have tried, if I were not obpi. Being OBPI has made me strong, creative, more determined and persistent. I believe that being obpi has given me a very strong sense of humor and compassion for others.

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: 28 years old with a right obstetrical brachial plexus injury. 5 surgeries to date with pretty decent results. Last surgery resolved years of pain in my right arm however, I am beginning my journey with overuse in my left arm

Hey sorry, I had a huge long post and then my computer ate it and I was too bummed to write another post.
But I will give it a try...
Mexico was absolutely amazing!!!!! I loved every minute of it except leaving. That was hard. The host family was so awesome. The father was the kindest guy I think I have ever met with as much crap as we gave him, he always had a smile on his face. I learned so much more than I can share in words. I think pictures will help and I will post the link to my pics when I finally get them on line, I am maybe half way. I can only upload them three at a time so its taking forever since I have around 300 pics. Plus I need to gather pics that my friends took of me so you know I was actually there, lol. I love art and we went to an art museum and I took way too many art pics.
We visited an orphanage down there and leaving the children behind was incredibly hard. They were all so cute and amazing! And let me tell you, they are good at soccer! They were aso trying to learn to speak English so that was fun. We had books and games to share with them. But most important was love that we shared with them. And an ear for them to talk off even though many of us could not understand what they were saying.
We visited a lot of families to hear their stories and it will definitely open your eyes to world issues. It also opens your heart.
It got mine. I really have a lot to think about now as I am supposed to start grad school this fall but there is a semester program going back to the same host family and I think I really want to go back. I think it would be an amazing experience. At the same time, I might risk losing my spot in the OT class, I wont know until I meet with my advisor tomorrow, wish me luck that I might be able to work something out so I can take classes in Mexico with the OT proff that is the leaser of the trip and then catch up in the spring semester.
So I loved my trip and I am missing the people, and the fresh fruit (straight from the trees, I picked it myself) and the things that I learned...
I tried to post while I was there but we lost power and the computer ate that email too
Its been rough going for emails and posts. I missed you all terribly though! It was hard to be away for so long, I havent done that in years. But for now I am back until my classes kill me! I will be using goodsearch like no other this semester as I have research papers comingout of my ears already and today is only the econd day of class. UHG!

Yes, Amy, I forgot to welcome you home...so "welcome home" and I am sooo happy for you that you recieved so much from your experiences. It's wonderful that you have some more options for the fall. I will send you good thoughts and a prayer that you can work things out with your Advisor the way you want. I look forward to see some pictures.

I'm happy you had a good time and were safely returned to the fold.
Now, lease tell me how I can go to Mexico? I must remind you though that once there I most certainly will not be returning. Well with a few exceptions for example in February and a week before my 50 someodd birthday my oldest son, Cade Michael, will be making me a proud Grampy to his first child. Odd that of 7 brothers and sisters I have and 2 being older than I it was I who gave my father his first grandson. Sadly four months later he was raised to heaven in an automobile accident.
Back to the high life now. Is it possible for me with nothing better in my life to go to Mexico and offer whatever it is I can offer?

Scott, you would probably love it in Mexico until you run out of money. Those people are the hardest working people I have ever seen!
Or what you really can do is move down there, learn the language, and then offer programs for people to come down and learn about Mexico. I could get you a contact if you want to arrange a chat with him. He will tell you what he does in Mexico (and has for 20 years) He is a Canadian that went to Mexico over 20 years ago and decided to stay there and I cant blame him, I loved it there!!!
So let me know if you want that contact.
