Arm Sling to Relieve Neck Problems

Post by swhite1 »

I know I asked this question when I first learned of my injury and that there was a whole community surrounding it but I never received a response from anyone...so I'll ask it again.
Am I the only one who needs a sling or a brace to hold my arm steady and in place because I can't seem to keep my shoulder, well located as opposed to dis located?

The model shown appears very large...it isn't.
These type braces will offer an option to those of us who use straps, braces or other devices to snugly hold our afflicted limb to our torso. Very comfortable and very adjustable.
The reason I believe these are worth it is that the design distibutes the weight over both shoulders.
I have severe neck damage on my oppsite side and conventional 'slings' proved detrimental to my particular condition. Anyone else who is having neck problems will find these to be wonderful.
I hope someone will try it and please provide me feedback so that I may know I'm contributing to the greater good?
Scott
I have both the blue and black (black goes with anything.)

My son is 4yrs old and he wears a wrist brace and a brace that is sort of like a wet suit under his shirt to hold his shoulder in place and then we put a velcro strap around his waist and velcro his wrist to his waist to keep the arm from dangling and pulling his shoulder out, he did have surgery in jan. at the mayo, they grafted some nerves and we are seeing some progress, he also wears a different brace at night to keep him from injuring the arm further. This may not help you as you are not 4yrs old, but I just wanted to respond to your post. TK

It is really wierd reading this, I was in an accident on 12/6, I had the strangest sensation that my shoulder was falling forward and have been in a sling and wrist splint since the accident (They said it was bad sprains), but did an MRI the next day when I was worse (nobody ever called to tell me it was positive for a C5-6 herniation) and I have had the sling on for this entire time (wrist splint too). It helps a lot. When I take it off, the pain is unbearable and the spasms are horrible. I found out 12/26 (when I went to an ortho surgeon for my "sprained shoulder" that I had the herniation, and now am 3 weeks out for my visit with the neurosurgeon. They have told me that I have a LBPI, but nobody could answer my questions... a mother of one of my daughter's friends mentioned this site to me today (her daughter has a BPI from birth), and one of my questions was, "should I continue wearing this sling?" I'm glad I'm not the only one. I have a regular sling I have been wearing and find myself constantly repositioning it to keep it comfortable.
