had sugery in march and it is working!

Post by dennystocks »

I had surgery in march at the mayo{God bless them}and I am starting to see more movement.I lost c5,6,7,8,t1 it was total avulsion on all.I can move my shoulder when in a pool or hot tub or if i put my arm on ball. this last Friday i was in a friends hot tub and i could bend my elbow towards me. but i can't do it with gravity.I also got brave and quit my pain patches and i am doing ok.God is watching over us all and loves us unconditional and all we have to do is ask him to .its working praise God I have been praying for all of you God bless denny

Congrats!!!! I am happy for you! If your insurance allows do pool therapy!!!! Its amazing because you can have resistance eventually without the gravity and then once you have built up the your muscles you can start working in gravity!

Hi Denny,

That is GREAT news! I remember that John was in a friend's swimming pool the first time he saw movement. I really embarrassed him (he was 16 yrs old) because I totally freaked - made him do it over & over. Kind of like baby steps. The movement will be very small and weak at first, but will get much stronger with continued daily therapy. Keep us posted as things progress!

Take care,

Ellen

Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: I am ROBPI, global injury, Horner's Syndrome. No surgery but PT started at 2 weeks old under the direction of New York Hospital. I wore a brace 24/7 for the first 11 months of my life. I've never let my injury be used as an excuse not to do something. I've approach all things, in life, as a challenge. I approach anything new wondering if I can do it. I tried so many things I might never have tried, if I were not obpi. Being OBPI has made me strong, creative, more determined and persistent. I believe that being obpi has given me a very strong sense of humor and compassion for others.

I too had surgery @ the Mayo in July '07, (God bless them too) and I started getting movement in my tricep three weeks ago!!!! I have OT three times a week and at first it was everything I could do just to push my hand part of the way out for one five minute session. I couldn't do the second five minute session I was too worn out! I put my arm out at a 90 degree on a towel on the table and now I can push it out pretty easy!! Just waiting on the bicep to start working!! You're right, God is watching over us all loves us unconditionally!! He has blessed me immensely from the get go!! Thanks Denny, the prayer's do work, we are each a testament to that!!
God bless all of you,
Brent--LTBPI/Oct '06
