Does Mayo Clinic care if there is litigation?
Re: Does Mayo Clinic care if there is litigation?
What??? Who did you talk to? I have had never heard of such a thing from Mayo Clinic. There are Many Many Many people that see Dr Bishop, Spinner and Chin for injuries sustained from an auto accident. I am very interested to hear details of this conversation.

"wha--???" to who, Ellen???

Same as you - to Wendy Lee. I've never heard of anything like that from Mayo! Seems the majority of bpi cases are the result of accidents involving someone else, and by default that means lawyers are involved.

i am in a similar situation. i just returned from mayo and the subject of lawyers and lawsuits never came up. they want to be paid and since my insurance will not cover this we had to bring payment/deposit. however i found them very easy to work with, including all phone conversations. i was hit by a car and also sustained head injuries that were cleared but their neurologists also examined me. i am having syrgery in 2 weeks!
i have encountered dr's who will not deal w/cases involving litigation. I went to a therapist to help me deal with my accident/injury, etc. Very hard for me to open up to someone and after 35 minutes of pouring out my heart the therapist said " i have 1 concern" and here i thought she was going to enlighten me, but she continued with "i do not testify in court" so now i sat w/her to finish the session and write a check for a ridiculous amount of money that i could have just flushed! i never even considered or thought about that...Anyway, sorry to ramble, but i do understand some won't get involved with litigation...but mayo seems to want to fix people, regardless!
good luck

Re: Does Mayo Clinic care if there is litigation?
Sorry it took so long to come back to you guys here, but I've been trying to get something happening.
Anyway, yes, Mayo told me, when I called their main number, and asked if they see people who have been in car accidents in the neurology dept. They flatout said no. Period. They're web site even asks this question as well. Now at the time I didn't have a dx, so this might be part of it, but I've had such stupid doctors here I was at my wit's end and would've been going there on my own. You see, they don't want to dx you. Much like all the fools around here.
I have actually been dx'd finally by a very wonderful doctor at a pain clinic (last resort) and it is Occipital Neuralgia, with cervical complications of course. Most people who have a whiplash injury generally get better with rest, NSAIDS, PT, if they hit squarely in the seat during impact. And its usually just one car that hits them. I had two trucks hit me, the second one while I was in the forward position when the first impact pushed me into the car in front of me. In the second impact I did not hit the seat and headrest dead on, but to the side, where my head rolled around the edge of the headrest a bit. This is what did me in. It damaged I think a whole bunch of soft tissue, nerves, muscles, ganglions, maybe a nerve root. And it has affected my left side back muscles now, L side pelvis muscles which connect above the sacrum, to the inside left leg, and down to the foot and toes. I've been put on Prednisone for two weeks to see about getting the tissues to settle down and this Friday we'll go back to take a look at the other issues. Like the paralysis of the hand, arm (only half the muscles want to work) the muscle spasms, the leg and foot that don't want to work proper now.
With it being so stinking long (the compression of the nerves) I wonder if they will come back after 9 months.
