Hi everyone!
My son is 3 1/2 and when we lived in NY 4 months ago he was getting PT and OT 5 times a week. Now here in CA they want to only give him OT once a week. He has a very severe injury (just started to really feel a few parts of his hand this summer. He also is getting a very slight grasping movement in his hand... He also has a whole bunch of other issues related to his lack of arm strength/movement/feeling etc. Needless to say he needs more than one OT spot for an hour a week.
I've gone through all the red tape CA is asking for... Douglas' Doctors agree that he needs more... but even with prescriptions, CA is not able to give more than once a week to him. Does this sound right?
Maybe it's just that NY has such great services and I need to pursue private OT for Douglas... I wonder if we can afford it... I'm kinda freaking out....

Jennie,
Are you trying to get the therapy through CCS (California Children's Services) or the school district?

CCS. He's too young for school services since he's only 3 1/2.

Jennie,
That absolutely does not sound right at all. Joshua has a moderate injury and is getting PT 2x/week (it was going to be OT once and PT once per week but neither of us liked the OT much!). That's all we can fit in the schedule, I bet if I asked for more we could get it?!
I'll try to ask Joshua's PT for suggestions. We had no problems getting the 2x/week, it was recommended by the therapists and our pediatrician just signed off on the prescription (since our BPI doc is also out of state).
