Re: s.s.disability
I had trouble with SS too. I had applied when my daughter was a year and was denied said she wasnt disabled enough. Then someone told me that that is what they do and to just keep appealing it. So we reapplied and got turned down and appealed it all the way to a judge hearing and then she was finally approved so I say just keep appealing it and maybe you will have the same outcome. Hope this helps.

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: I am ROBPI, global injury, Horner's Syndrome. No surgery but PT started at 2 weeks old under the direction of New York Hospital. I wore a brace 24/7 for the first 11 months of my life. I've never let my injury be used as an excuse not to do something. I've approach all things, in life, as a challenge. I approach anything new wondering if I can do it. I tried so many things I might never have tried, if I were not obpi. Being OBPI has made me strong, creative, more determined and persistent. I believe that being obpi has given me a very strong sense of humor and compassion for others.

Here is a link to the changes made to SS Disability Blue Book Policy regarding BPI injury.
https://secure.ssa.gov/apps10/POMS.NSF/lnx/0424580030
Bring this to your local SS Office. It is a new policy because they (SSD) did not have a code for BPI.

Dustin's DVR caseworker told us to contact Senator Kohl. After he got involved Dustin was approved within weeks. Best of luck with this.

thank you for your reply, i have written senators, and congressman, and they keep telling me they have contacted the s.s. office and that congressional interest has been noted. but thats as far as i get. but i wont give up, i will keep trying, thanks for help. it cheered me up. angie m.
Re: s.s.disability
Did they send you the form to fill out? You fill it out and return it to the Senators office and they review and send to SS. Once the SS office has this form they have, I think, 30 days to respond in writing. You should get a copy and so should the senator, I know that the SS office doesn't like it but it worked for us. Although Dustin's caseworker couldn't say specifically that what we did was needed and a good idea she did applaud the effort as SS was dragging us along and hadn't made a decision in over 285 days.
