Push-ups

Post by rachelcasa »

Well, believe it or not. This arm is slowly doing push ups. I just couldn't believe it. I joined this cross-fit work out center recently who is in with my physical therapist. The best news is I don't call it a work out at all. I call it an arm stretching so I continue to go. He has really worked with me and my arm and is willing to continue to help me strengthen it.

The best news is I did 10 push ups and continue to get stronger every time I do them. I do feel a bit of compensation when I come up however, I'm not doing the real manly man push ups either.

I also am doing a fake pull up. He puts a box underneath my feet and my arms do the motion of a pull up. I even (with the help of my good arm) turned my arms around, facing my body, and did 5 that way.

I am sure the people there laugh at the sight of such a thing...but it really has helped.

Anyways, just had to share my great news!!
I hope everyone is doing well.
*HUGS*

By the way the fires here are still burning. Tonight was awful with smoke in the air and more ashes falling out of the sky. Please pray for rain and the safety of others in Montana. I would appreciate it.
Thanks everyone!!

Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: I am ROBPI, global injury, Horner's Syndrome. No surgery but PT started at 2 weeks old under the direction of New York Hospital. I wore a brace 24/7 for the first 11 months of my life. I've never let my injury be used as an excuse not to do something. I've approach all things, in life, as a challenge. I approach anything new wondering if I can do it. I tried so many things I might never have tried, if I were not obpi. Being OBPI has made me strong, creative, more determined and persistent. I believe that being obpi has given me a very strong sense of humor and compassion for others.

Rachel
Wow am I impressed! I use to do the fake pull ups as a kid. My brother would hold me up and I would use the unaffected hand to turn my bpi hand facing me...
I really thought I was doing it and was so proud of myself.

Who cares what other's think. If they ask print out some of the UBPN prevention brochures and hand them out!

I'll keep Montana in my prayers. Keep your hose handy and keep safe.

Miss ya at camp

The only suggestion that I have for you would be to use a hair clip. Maybe try to pull as much hair up on one side and clip it with a hair clip. Then pull the other side up and try with one hand to move the clip over slowly and clip the hair together.

Another suggestion is to try to us bobby pins. If you can secure them well enough with one hand then pull the other side up and try the other side with pins also.

The newest style is to actually twist the hair rather than have it smooth. You take a strand of hair and twist it and then you could secure it with a bobby pin or clip on both sides. It gives it a messy look but stylish.

I sure hope it works for you.

Rachel,
First off, congrats on the push-ups and PT "workouts"! That is great.
Second, where in Montana are you? We live outside of Missoula and the fires and smoke here are bad too. It sure seems like the fire season got started early this year doesn't it?!?!?

Well hello there neighbor!!
I am up here in Bigfork at the end of Flathead Lake. The smoke is so bad isn't it. They are calling for rain today but also thunderstorms too..that is so scary.

Are you going to camp this year?

Since you are so close we should try to meet sometime. Well, once they open all the roads again. Sounds like it's rough getting to Missoula. The swan is closed and now Evaro.

Nice to meet you.
