Hi there, I´m new here

Post by johnny2099 »

Hi I´m from Peru, I had an accident in my motorcycle. I can´t move my arm only i can move my hand and my shoulder. Now i´m quite in peace i understood that this kind of injury is serious. I want to find a job, i only want to work, the employers said that i can´t. Before my accident i was accepted to work as Metallurgical Plant Attendant in Sociedad Minera Cerro Verde SAA in Arequipa-Peru-South America this mining company is part of Phelps Dodge Company(Phoenix) i had a contract and had my photocheck, i´m metallurgist i have a title in metallurgical engineering, after of my accident when the people from human resource watched me they postponed my contract 3 months after that period of time they realized that i couldn´t move my arm and they said me that they can´t contracted me because i have a disability. I´m a little upset because i can´t work in my carreer despite i can do all kind of work but the minning company belive i can´t work. I think where is the Social Responsability
I tought that the minning had as policy the access to opportunity to citizens to develop their potential, lead better live.
Can you gave me and advice? please or can you answear my questions? thanks .
won´t I never work in a Minning Company?, must I change my carreer? what i should do? Have you ever seen people who have a little disability working in a minning company?
here is a video of a friend my status is something like that

Johnny,
Welcome to UBPN. You might have better luck posting this under the Traumatic Injury board, as yours is from an accident. People on that board can most likely help you, they don't all read this one.. try this:

Johny,
Welcome to the boards. Sorry to hear of your accident. Your injury sounds similar to my sons. My son also has hand and his shoulder came back. It is the bicep that we are waiting for and he will have surgery to transfer muscle so he can bend up the arm. I am not sure when your accident happened but maybe OT or PT would help you regain some movement there. Concerning the job, I think it is so sad when someone wants to work and is not given the chance to try. Is it possible for you to show them that you are able to do what is needed to be done even with the restritions with your arm? Perhaps if they see that you still can do the job they would let you.
Good luck,
Sue

I am very, very sorry to learn about your injury. Truly. If I were you, I would contact Phelps Dodge Company directly for guidance and employment. I am certain that this is a very difficult time for you, please be calm and deliberate in what you do. In the meantime you need to get into therapy and remain there.

You have to think forward, perhaps you may not be able to do the physcial work of a metallurgist. Might this be an opportunity to further your education there so that you function more at an intellectual, advising, consulting level.

All the best.

the same happened to me with my career. But my injury was a birth injury. Although i regained alot of my motion back through the years, when i applied for my first job they refused me for almost the same reason as yours. But the company i applied to was not concerned with my abilty to do the work but because, i will be working on oil rigs, which is very hazerdous, so they say that i might risk my life and the lives of others due to my limited range of motion. Although its unfair but i guess i cant blame them, because if someone got hurt cause of my disablity i cant live with it. i found a good office job in the same field of work, i consider myself lucky i guess. i hope you were lucky too and found a job that you like.
