My name is Doreen - I live in Mpls/St.paul. I am desperately in search of a rehab or physcial med doctor AND a physical therapist familiar for brachial plexus/tos disorders.. If ANYONE can offer suggestions in this area I would be so grateful. Sincerely, Doreen

Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: January 1980 Yamaha RD200 vs 16 wheeler truck, result, 1 totally paralysed right arm. I was 21, now 54. I had no surgery, I don't regret this. Decided to totally ignore limitations (easily done aged 21) adapted very quickly to one handed life, got married, had 3 kids, worked- the effect of the injury on my life (once the pain stopped being constant) was minimal and now, aged 54, I very rarely even think of it, unless I bash it or it gets cold, then I wish I'd had it amputated :) Except for a steering knob on my car, I have no adaptations to help with life, mainly because I honestly don't think of myself as disabled and the only thing I can't do is peel potatoes, which is definitely a good thing.

Hi Doreen,

My partner is tbpi from an accident on August 11, 2001.
He's been going to Sister Kenny rehab in Minneapolis.
We've broken some trail for you there. He is seeing
Dr. Spierer and she has set him up with a good PT and
hand therapist. They also have a great pool for water therapy. Feel free to email me privately and I would be happy to share any other of our experience with you.
This list is a great resource----all of our best education came from here and we've passed it along to Sister Kenny.

All the best,
Mary

Hi! My name is Mindy and I live in Northern MN I have a left TBPI from a car accident over two years ago.
The doctor at Gillettes does not see adults at all. Closest bpi doctor is Mayo Clinic in Rochester if you can get in. They are very pickey about insurance and I was told it would be a six month wait unless an emergency. I have no insurance and could not pay what they wanted so I never went.
My OT tried Sister Kenney but they told her they did not treat this type of injury.
I have never seen a specialist because I financially cannot afford one and it has been too long. If you want to talk e-mail me.
God bless
Mindy
