Finally a date!

Post by hope16_05 »

I got my call from Mayo this morning (I was in the shower so I missed it) but I got a message saying my surgery will be May 30th! I got the date I wanted but now its just a short 4 weeks away! I am so relieved to actually know, I hate not knowing. I am a huge planner and this not knowing has not allowed me to plan at all. So as of this am I can plan again!

Hugs to all!!

Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: I am ROBPI, global injury, Horner's Syndrome. No surgery but PT started at 2 weeks old under the direction of New York Hospital. I wore a brace 24/7 for the first 11 months of my life. I've never let my injury be used as an excuse not to do something. I've approach all things, in life, as a challenge. I approach anything new wondering if I can do it. I tried so many things I might never have tried, if I were not obpi. Being OBPI has made me strong, creative, more determined and persistent. I believe that being obpi has given me a very strong sense of humor and compassion for others.

I am so happy you have a date and can plan.

It's hard with work and school to live with out a plan.
I must admit I am a planner and like to cover all my bases and cross my bridges before I get there.
So I am sure you must be so relieved.

Sending you happy thoughts for this first step towards your surgery.

Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: LOBPI. I am 77 yrs old and never had a name for my injuries until 2004 when I found UBPN at age 66.

My injuries are: LOBPI on upper body and Cerebrael Palsy on the lower left extremities. The only intervention I've had is a tendon transplant from my left leg to my left foot to enable flexing t age 24 in 1962. Before that, my foot would freeze without notice on the side when wearing heels AND I always did wear them at work "to fit in" I also stuttered until around age 18-19...just outgrew it...no therapy for it. Also suffered from very very low self esteem; severe Depression and Anxiety attacks started at menopause. I stuffed emotions and over-compensated in every thing I did to "fit in" and be "invisible". My injuries were Never addressed or talked about until age 66. I am a late bloomer!!!!!

I welcome any and all questions about "My Journey".

I'm so happy for you. Frankie wants to know all about your experience at mayo , He is once again working hard at therapy you were right he just needed a break, Said maybe in a few months he will let me contact mayo clinic but for now he feels he's in deep enough and wants to take the summer off from doctors. Its hard not knowing I to am a planner and it makes me nuts when something messes it up or keeps me in limbo waiting.
Best of luck we will be thinking of you

One final down this week and three to go next week. Then I am all done for this semester. Honestly can't wait for next Wednesday to be over and I am back home. I hate moving and I am tired of homework and studying. I just realized that after Wednesday I will have moved 5 times in two years. I hate moving, its so much work.

I will keep every one updated when I hear the details of my surgery, supposed to get that call today.
Thanks for all the well wishes!!!
Hugs,
Amy

Update

Post by hope16_05 »

Well, I got some details today on the surgery. I will have to be at Mayo on the 29th for pre-op appts and possible tests. Not sure on the tests until my doctor gets back from teaching in India. His nure said she can email him and see if he has time to reply or wait until he gets back next week I think, and they will let me know on tests then.
The surgery will be May 30th at St, Mary's hospital (part of the Mayo clinic campus). I then asked abouut how long they thought I would need to be in the hospital for and the nurse told me 5 to 7 days. YIKES!!! I have never been in the hospital that long! My longest so far was three days, that was the day before, the day of and the day after. 5 to 7 days, totally did not expect that but I guess they want me in good shape before sending me home. So as of right now, my expected Mayo stay will be May 29th through June 4th.

I will be getting a laptop before then so I should be able to update from Mayo, they have wireless for their patients, or at least that what it says online.
