DeShawn,

I am so sorry to hear that Rain is facing another surgery. I wish you would tell me these things!!!

Of course, no experience with the Ilizarov here, but just know that you'll be in our thoughts and prayers. You have my number, so keep me updated!

Thanks for everyone's responses. It has taken us a little while to make a firm decision, but we prayerfully came to it. Rain is 7 now, and was included in the decision making process since she has to do the work. Her major concern is that the surgery not interfere with her dance recital. Rain has has many issues that need to be adressed before she has the gracillas muscle transfer. Dr. Joseph Gugenheim will be doing her surgery, and we are very fond of him. I was told that she will have more discomfort from the braces on her teeth than she will have from the brace on her arm since she lacks so much feeling in the left arm.

Cherie, sorry for not telling you sooner. I've been trying to not think about this constantly. Rain is so happy generally, I just try to focus on that. I'll give you the details when I see you next.

Tessie, thanks for the pictures. I am glad to hear that your son has had great success after the surgery. Makes me feel better about my decision. How long has he been splinted? Rain is going to have to wear her brace for 4 to 6 months. It all depends on how fast she grows. Dr. Gugenheim is leaning more toward the 4 month time frame for her. Time will tell. If you think of anything else please fill me in.

Thanks,
DeShawn
