I went to see a different doctor in my home state of washington who was recommended by Dr. Nath, when I got there he could believe Iwas seen by the doctor I was seen by, both in same lovation by the way. The first Dr. just did an exploratory surgery, and this other Dr. says If I had seen him there was probably something to be done, but not now. He is recommending amputation. Talk about a terrible appt. Anyway Hi all

Re: New bad news
Sorry this is what he recommended. I am sure that is very hard to hear. Have you tried the team at Mayo? I think I would get another opinion before making that decision. Of course there are also those that are glad they did the amputation and those that wish they had done it. I read back and saw you avulsed 6-8, I think?
What type of surgery have you had previous? I know Ellen B's son got back grip and some other things after avulsions. May want to talk with her. Good luck on what you decide.
God bless,
Sue

Hmm, not knowing any specifics of your injury/surgery/situation, I would say hold off on getting this done as the user 'Christopher' has posted some postive information in regards to research/work with nerves. Also something I have found to be reinforced very strongly in the 12+ months of my injury, doctors are human themselves and can make wrong diagnoses/'suggestions' etc. Don't take any/all things said to you as gospel. I was told I would never move my arm again initially March 2006. I'm showing positive signs of nerve reinnovation and (some to potential) movement controlled by thought ('like normal') again.
Wishing you the best and my thoughts are with you! As said, if possible try the team at Mayo if you can and/or get at least one (or more!) other opinions because that's what they are, OPINIONS, not "What has to be done" (all the time)
Smiles go out to you because frowns don't get us anywhere forward (:

Brandon,
Don't conceed to that news just yet. Hearing that surely wouldn't make anyone feel good, but I was told I wouldn't do a lot of things with my arm either, but I am.
Docs don't always know cut and dry answes - keep seeking.

Yeah thanks everyone, I usually take there opinions with a grain of salt. I am going to get a new EMG and see what DR.Nath says and see what the Mayo clinic has to say. Even then I don't think I would amputate my ebow bend I can lift my arm up I mean it looks normal. That's something. Anyway Takecare

Brandon,
My son Brandon was BORN with a ROBPI, whwen I took him to the first Dr. He was two weeks old, they had him set for AMPUTATION !!!! They had the date and everything, I ran out of that room quick and fast.
I think alot of time Dr's use amputation, because they don't have a clue, I know this Dr. didn't. After two surgeries, my son is doing wonderfully.
Yes, TBPI and OBPI injuries are different, but the word AMPUTATE is just a word they throw around when they are CONFUSED !!!!!
Gayle Mom to Brandon 8 1/2 ROBPI
