My husband fell from a tanker truck last April and has extensive damage to his thoracic nerve and the brachial plexus along with that he has a lot of disc problems in his neck. The pain he goes through everyday is out of this world and has turned our life upside down. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on drs, we will travel! Thanks for all of your help!

Need help in PA
Re: Need help in PA
Beth,
We are from Central PA also, Mechanicsburg to be exact. My daughter had a serious motorcycle accident and avulsed all 5 nerves of her right brachial plexus along with numerous other injuries. Hershey Med did an awesome job with the trauma injuries but the neurosurgeon sent us to Mayo Clinic in MN to have nerve and muscle transfers for her brachial plexus injuries. The neurosurgeon said if her daughter were to have this injury she would send her to Mayo, that's why we went there. They are wonderful there. Dr.s Spinner, Shin and Bishop are the Brachial Plexus Team there. We also met with a pain specialist, however Melanie didn't have too many pain issues, thank God. Good Luck to you and you husband. - Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: I am ROBPI, global injury, Horner's Syndrome. No surgery but PT started at 2 weeks old under the direction of New York Hospital. I wore a brace 24/7 for the first 11 months of my life. I've never let my injury be used as an excuse not to do something. I've approach all things, in life, as a challenge. I approach anything new wondering if I can do it. I tried so many things I might never have tried, if I were not obpi. Being OBPI has made me strong, creative, more determined and persistent. I believe that being obpi has given me a very strong sense of humor and compassion for others.

Here is a link to our Medical Resource Page.
I read on the adult/obpi board that you will not be allowed to see doctors outside of PA.
That is so unfair... and limits you with just a few choices for opinions.

Hope things get better once he has seen a BPI specialist.

Beth,
I don't know about the legalities of them firing him, but would definitely check. So, If he has no income and is injured have you checked into SSI if he is eligible he should also receive a medical card. My son was injured at 18 and has both. Mayo takes WI medicaid, not sure about PA but worth a shot. I also believe that if workmen's comp does not have a dr in that specialty they must let you see one. They may tell you different but I don't think they can refuse you proper treatment.

Sue...
He does not have health coverage except for comp. So everything with this injury is covered, he has not checked into SI because he is getting money from comp and they will allow him to see no one outside of PA. I have set up 2 appts with the specialists on this site, we go on the 28th to Blue Bell and then on April 12th to Pittsburgh so hopefully we can get some answers!
Thanks for all of your help!

Re: Need help in PA
I would definitely go to the Mayo clinic in Minnesota. The doctors are totally great, my son who is four had nerve surgery in January and I have some hope for him to regain some function in his right arm now. TK
