Triangle Tilt March 20th

Post by Jill - Briana's mom »

My daughter Briana is having the TT next week. She had the MQ last December. She has a LOBPI. Dr. Nath is using a new brace-the SARO brace. Does anyone have any info regarding it or how shirts fit with it on? I know with the old splint people talked about cutting and putting in velcro on the sides. Any info would be helpful.

Any info for traveling would be helpful. We are heading to Houston this weekend. Any experiences or hints for the first six weeks?

HELLO JILL,
WE JUST GOT BACK FROM HOUSTON. MY SON HAD THE TT WITH DR.NATH ON 3-1-07.WHERE ARE YOU LEAVING FROM? DO YOU HAVE HOTEL RESV. YET? MIKEY SEEMED TO DO VERY WELL WITH THE NEW BRACE. I LIKE IT MUCH BETTER THAN THE OTHERS.IT HAS LOTS OF PADDING ONTHE INSIDE BUT YOU KNOW HOW KIDS ARE. HE HAS COMPLAINED VERY LITTLE ABOUT IT.I HAD TO GET HIS SHIRT ONE SIZE BIGGER AND CUT IT A LITTLE. IT'S BEEN PRETTY WARM HERE SO I HAVE NOT BEEN PUTTING A SHIRT ON HIM. THE BRACE MAKES HIM GET HOT EASY.
ANYMORE QUESTIONS PLEASE LET ME KNOW.....
THANKS KATHY

My son Douglas is in the SARO brace. He wears his shirt under it. Right after the TT he was in a splint made at the hospital that stayed on for a while. I was sewing him special shirts and also just cutting the arm off of larger shirts and making a slit down the side. e-mail me if you need more specifics.

I'll keep Briana in my thoughts! I'm sure it will all be fine!

I just bought some cheap shirts and cut the whole side right to the splint in the hotel room, for the ride home on the airplane. I brought self-adhesive velcro...which worked until you washed the shirt ( then, it wants to attach to itself, and eventually we ripped it off). It was cold when we came home, but even still, he only wore a shirt when we went somewhere. My son is 4, and I thought the splint was going to be the toughest thing for him -- but, he did fine. We had the "old" splint, and now have the new Saro Splint. I actually liked the old one better -- but, we will adjust to this splint too. I would be happy to discuss any details regarding the actual surgery day, etc -- email me at april2123@yahoo.com, or we can talk on the phone. Best wishes for your experience in Houston -- april

The shirts that I bought were about 3 sizes too big, actually. And, comfy pants help --- My little cowboy was very upset when his cowboy belt didn't work with the splint !

Hi Kathy,

How is your son doing? I am pretty anxious for the surgery day. Briana had the Mod Quad last december and had violent emersion from the anesthesia. Just one more worry. How did your son do right after? How old is he? Did he have lots of discomfort?

We are staying at the holiday inn suites this time around. We travel as a family and they have a 2 bedroom suite to accomodate us! I hear the hospital now has a movie theatre and popcorn in it? Jill

Jill,

Good luck with the surgery. My daughter is 4 months post TT and is doing awesome. It is a very difficult surgery to recover from, but the things I am seeing now make it more than worth it.

I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
