Working?
Working?
I have tried several times to find employment but have been turne down. It's not a matter of what I can or cannot do, it's a matter of what the employer wants. Is anybody collecting SSI? Has anybody had trouble getting SSI? I also have a great deal of pain which afects my ability to work. I would be greatful for some feed back. Thank you

Re: Working?
Fredrick, I got SSD, it is different from SSI! SSD is Social Security Disability, that is what we can get. It is hard, I had to appeal mine twice!! i got it based on the facts from my doctor that I have more surgery to come!
I Am now working full time and no longer collecting it! It wasn't much, but it did help!! The amount of SSD is based on what you have paid in while working previously! I was 21 when I had my accident so I hadn't paid in that much!
FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT! Its worth it and we are entitled to it!!

Re: Working?
Dustin does receive SSI. But he qualified on the multitude of injuries he has. It still took us nearly a year to have it approved. He has TBPI, TBI, slow coordination, some difficulty walking. They were hoping they could out wait his recovery enough that they would turn him down. I contacted Senator Kohl's office and he was accepted within 1 week. Senator Kohl is the one to handle complaints against the SS office. I wanted to go the SS office tape down her arm, put stones in her shoes and ask her, Now what type of job can you do. We're not so far from you. We are in Neenah. Dustin lives at home for now and is attending college. Arm is still flail but is gaining in strength.

Thank you for your reply as my son has very simular injuries and although I have applied for SSD, I still have not heard. He is receiving WC paychecks that would make him over income but I want him to be eligible for medical care. Did your daughter have a nerve transfer surgery? Thanks, Michele
Re: Working?
Spinky, I'm not sure whose daughter you're talking about. But, I will answer, lol. Dustin had exploratory surgery, he was prepared for nerve grafts but when they got in there nothing was avulsed so they decided to let it heal on it's own. They thought he would get the best recovery this way. Now they have suggested muscle transfer, but are waiting as things are still strengthening with therapy.
