Frankies Mod Quad

Post by Mare »

Hi Everyone just an update the surgery went well Frankie was released from the hospital yesterday and doing great very little pain sleeps well dispite the pillow splint Dr Nath said he has never seen someone so tight but after the surgery was able to move the arm over Frankies head now we just have to wait pray and work on PT to get it to keep going up that far now its at a 90 degree angle. The best part is that Frankie says he can now feel the muscles and shrug his shoulder which he could never do before. leaving for home today can't wait to get there but will miss all the great moms I met here going through the same things, all of them were boys how weird is that they all got together after surgery and compared splints to see who had the biggest Frankie one due to the pillow. bye for now Mare

Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: LOBPI. I am 77 yrs old and never had a name for my injuries until 2004 when I found UBPN at age 66.

My injuries are: LOBPI on upper body and Cerebrael Palsy on the lower left extremities. The only intervention I've had is a tendon transplant from my left leg to my left foot to enable flexing t age 24 in 1962. Before that, my foot would freeze without notice on the side when wearing heels AND I always did wear them at work "to fit in" I also stuttered until around age 18-19...just outgrew it...no therapy for it. Also suffered from very very low self esteem; severe Depression and Anxiety attacks started at menopause. I stuffed emotions and over-compensated in every thing I did to "fit in" and be "invisible". My injuries were Never addressed or talked about until age 66. I am a late bloomer!!!!!

I welcome any and all questions about "My Journey".

Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: I am ROBPI, global injury, Horner's Syndrome. No surgery but PT started at 2 weeks old under the direction of New York Hospital. I wore a brace 24/7 for the first 11 months of my life. I've never let my injury be used as an excuse not to do something. I've approach all things, in life, as a challenge. I approach anything new wondering if I can do it. I tried so many things I might never have tried, if I were not obpi. Being OBPI has made me strong, creative, more determined and persistent. I believe that being obpi has given me a very strong sense of humor and compassion for others.

Thanks Everyone for keeping us in your prayers and thoughts we got home last night and he slept really well I sleep on the floor in his room I'm afraid he'll need me and I won't hear him and sure enough 6am this morning I finally go to bed and he wakes up vomiting I think he may have caught a bug on the plane no fever said he felt fine after he got sick but wants no food that's not like frankie 2 hours after surgery he had a baked potato with sour cream and chicken fingers guess we have to wait and see he goes to his peditrian tomorrow for a wound check and I want to take him to meet the PT she works closely with Dr Nath and has to increase the padding in the pillows till his arm is in the statue of liberty position this thing is the biggest pain its always slipping down and I worry the arm is not in the right place Any way thank you ALL for your kind words I read all the posts to frankie and dave and he laughs. Thank You Again Mare

Mornin' Mare and Frankie & Dave,
Sorry to hear that a 'bug' caught up with you Frankie. I hope it is only a 24 hr.one.
Frankie, could you make up a joke about that Statue of Liberty Splint? I'm sure there's one somewhere!...LOL I tried myself and couldn't come up with one 'cause I'm not that clever, but I bet you could! ;) I've always thought there is a joke there somewhere ever since I've read about them here on the Message Boards....I just think that YOU are the one to do it for this splint.(It sounds so funny to me, but then.. my sense of humor...!..LOL).;)

Mare, you are doing a great job as one of the "newest" "Florence Nightengale Moms" :). That's what I call all Moms who sleep Next To, With, and "on-the-floor" regimen surgery & post surgery. Now,..I hope you have a chance to have a nap too, each day...that's necessary!

HUGS, hugs ,hugs to Frankie/Dave and you, MOM,

I hope Frankie and Dave are soon feeling better.

Hmmm Statue of Liberty stands in NY Harbor.
Perhaps you could get a photo of Frankie & Dave and put it in front of the Statue of Liberty for your holiday cards this year.... LOL....
