burning sensation?

Post by hope16_05 »

I have been having a burning sensation on the right side of my back and was wondering if any one else has had a similar sensation/experience? This burning is only on the surface of my skin, it does not go to the muscular level at all. Its pretty constant and gets more intense as the day goes on but lightens up a lot at night. I feel it most when something brushed against my back but even my t-shirt bothers that spot. Any ideas what the problem might be?
Thanks,

Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: LOBPI. I am 77 yrs old and never had a name for my injuries until 2004 when I found UBPN at age 66.

My injuries are: LOBPI on upper body and Cerebrael Palsy on the lower left extremities. The only intervention I've had is a tendon transplant from my left leg to my left foot to enable flexing t age 24 in 1962. Before that, my foot would freeze without notice on the side when wearing heels AND I always did wear them at work "to fit in" I also stuttered until around age 18-19...just outgrew it...no therapy for it. Also suffered from very very low self esteem; severe Depression and Anxiety attacks started at menopause. I stuffed emotions and over-compensated in every thing I did to "fit in" and be "invisible". My injuries were Never addressed or talked about until age 66. I am a late bloomer!!!!!

I welcome any and all questions about "My Journey".

Amy,
I frequently have different, sometimes weird, sensations across my shoulders, back and small of my back & various places on the whole of my LOBPI side. I don't know if this is anything to do with your burning....BTW, it is usually when I am over-tired OR Stressed.

HUGS and have a great school year Amy!,

Amy, I too have the pain staking burning sensations throughout my shoulder area and my neck, it's apparantly getting worse since I started my new job. I stood most of the day today and feel alot better than when I sit. The cold weather here is kicking in and it has a lot to do with it. I don't have the pain when something touches my skin though. Did you call the doc? Let me know. Keep me posted too. I hope it gets better soon. Feeling your pain here as well. *HUGS*

I have not called my doctor yet but I have asked my OT and she is not sure it has to do with bpi since it is lower than the muscle innervated by the nerves of the brachial plexus. I just figured I would ask here and see if it is bpi or if I am just lucky. Reight now Iam trying a piece of kinesio tape directly over the area that is bugging me and thats helping a little as its something constant over the burning area and so it really only gets to me when there is pressure on it (like sitting against a chair, or my car seat, last night it hurt bad until I got out of my car then it lightened up as the direct pressure was gone.)

If I cant find a way for it to go away and it doesn't become a problem with my school work then I will just wait to ask my dr. when I see him in April or March if I can get my appt to coordinate with my spring break.
So far its been there for three weeks and I am getting better at ignoring it. Probably not the best idea but its working and I really cant miss classes this semester so it has to wait until next semester anyway.

Thanks for the replies!
Hugs,
Amy

ps Carolyn, I am completely swamped in school right now, I have so much home work I should be doing instead of posting but I love you all and have to come visit!
So far, I just started class on Tuesday the 5th and I have already had a quiz in psychology and will have a test in medical terminology tomarrow. I have been studying for that though so I am sure I will be fine!
Well I better get back to my homework, talk to you later
oh and I almost forgot, there is an update on my website for August and my move in September.

Where exaclty is the problem? I know you mentioned that your OT said the area in question is below the muscles that are inervated by the brachial plexus. I would like to that I have recently developed an interesting pain in my right lower back. I am ROBPI. That has nothing to do with the brachial plexus but my guess is compensation has to do with my problem. Hate to say it as I am getting my masters in OT but it might be time to see a PT about this one.
Good luck!

Carolyn, I am not completely ignoring it. lol just mostly. I see an OT at my college next Monday along with a grad student and I talked with the OT about it today she thinks some myo-facial release might help so I will be trying that I hope.

Becky, its great to hear from you! My burning sensation is right off my spine and starts where my bra strap crosses my back. The area affected is about the size of a deck of cards, maybe a little bigger. So if you lay the deck of cards along my spine right under my bra strap(the one that crosses my back, not the shoulder straps)that is where the burning is. Does that make sense? If not I can get my roommate to take a picture of where I have the piece of Kinesio tape and I can email it to you so you can see where I am refering to.

By the way, how are your classes? I am only a sophmore this year but cant wait to get into more of the OT stuff!
Talk to you soon,

The OT stuff is really great. I am very glad I chose this career. But it is very demanding. This is my second year of grad school. I have class all day monday, wedsday, and friday, and on tuesdays and thursdays I have level 1 fieldworks. These are cool cause you actually get to go out in the field. This is my last semester of classes. Yeah! And them starting in january I go out on my level 2 fieldworks. I'm excited but I will be working 40 hour weeks without pay until the end of june. Sigh.

Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: I am ROBPI, global injury, Horner's Syndrome. No surgery but PT started at 2 weeks old under the direction of New York Hospital. I wore a brace 24/7 for the first 11 months of my life. I've never let my injury be used as an excuse not to do something. I've approach all things, in life, as a challenge. I approach anything new wondering if I can do it. I tried so many things I might never have tried, if I were not obpi. Being OBPI has made me strong, creative, more determined and persistent. I believe that being obpi has given me a very strong sense of humor and compassion for others.

Becky & Amy
You two will make great OT's... Wish you lived near me and I wish I had some OT that could have helped prevent secondary injuries.

Amy
I get burning sensation in my neck and back sometimes and I think it's from sitting in one position working on computer or paper work for a long period of time.
I was at the chiropractors this week because I picked up something wrong.
He said my left unaffected side was swollen from compensation.
I get burning in my neck on the unaffected side when I work on the computer for long periods.

Could it be from compensation?
