Someone told me she is taking different B vitamins as it is supposed to generate nerve repair. Anyone familiar with this? And if so do you know which vitamin B's help? She thought it was B-12, B-6 and couldn't remember the others she was taking.
Thanks, Sue

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: I am ROBPI, global injury, Horner's Syndrome. No surgery but PT started at 2 weeks old under the direction of New York Hospital. I wore a brace 24/7 for the first 11 months of my life. I've never let my injury be used as an excuse not to do something. I've approach all things, in life, as a challenge. I approach anything new wondering if I can do it. I tried so many things I might never have tried, if I were not obpi. Being OBPI has made me strong, creative, more determined and persistent. I believe that being obpi has given me a very strong sense of humor and compassion for others.

As a child I had to take B Vitamins.
When I was a teenager I began to get B-12 shots.
From time to time over the years (according to the doctors beliefs) I took B-12 Shots.
When I stop taking B-Complex & B-12 shots I seem to feel the fatigue from pain and stress. I also display symptoms of B deficiency.
I use to make my daughters take B-Complex for PMS.
I found it helped during that stressful time and they still take it.
I was having a great deal of problems with zings and spasms and finally insisted that I be allowed to take B-12 shots again.
Once I started the B-12 shots and B-Complex again I stopped getting them on a regular basis and it is rare when I have one now.
It really stopped the dancing in my arm.
I don't know if there is any scientific proof that it helps and frankly I don't really care who disputes it. It works for me!
Many doctors do not believe in vitamin therapy and that has been a battle I have had to fight.
My daughter is a nurse so I get my shots from her and I guess the doctor wrote the prescription because she knows I won't take pain pills so why not give me a vitamin.
I have read many vitamin books and as far as I know B works on the nervous system.
I have chronic pain and frustration from obpi and that causes stress and stress depletes B........
I hope this information helps.
In my case B Complex and B-12 works well for me and has for many years.
I feel it's better than taking all the pain medications that really do nothing for me.

Kath:
The pediatric neurologist we take Andrew and Juliana to believes in B vitamins as well.
I didn't realize it could help with PMS...I was taking extra Calcium for that, I will try B-complex and B-12.
thanks for the info,
claudia

My daughters are 14 month apart... can you imagine those teen years! LOL...
Recently I started to press them to take them again and guess what?
They both reluctantly admit I am right... LOL...
As a child I had to take separate doses of Vit.B.
I hated the taste of most of them except for the B-1 pills...
This little obpi child was a climber and took the bottle and ate almost all of the B-1 tablets...
I loved the taste...
My poor mother was scared to death...
My family doctor told me as a teenager I was always supposed to take Vit B.
That was the course of treatment along with home PT for me.

Re: Vitamin B for nerve repair?
ok,now you put a wild hair in my bonnet! I guess you could say I have nerve damage from obpi...i delivered a baby with it and "they"pushed way too hard on way too many places to even begin to explain! I have been taking Neurontin for the past year for the nerve pain, after being to many docs i have just about given up on them!! I will surely try this for my horrible backpain and leg pain!! Thanks so much!!! ps,my daughter's obpi is improving with time and therapy,so for that i will accept any pain forever!
Re: Vitamin B for nerve repair?
One of our doctors recommends B6, 50-100 mgs per day to adult nerve injured patients. Apparently there was a study some years ago that showed a possible relationship with nerve health.

Hi Paula
By any chance do you know where I might read that study?
I find B-12 shots amazing for zingers in my robpi arm.
I get them monthly and every time I stopped for a few years I began to get the shocks and zings.

Re: Vitamin B for nerve repair?
I was just poking around the forum, and came across this old post. Thought I would add from our experience.
Eric was injured in Belgium and had surgery there. The surgeon prescribed a regular dose of vitamin b, called "b-nerva" for about 2 or three weeks.
Because none of the docs here said anything I couldn't get Eric to continue, because it made his pee yellow...EEEW!
But it can't hurt and might help.

Re: Vitamin B for nerve repair?
Get Eric back on the B... too bad if it's yellow!
Pain = stress
Stress = depleted b
Our nervous system needs B.
Unfortunatly B in our food chain seems to be weak.
I think it's better then taking any drugs.
Of course, it works for me when it comes to the zings and the cramps in my arm.
I started as a teenager and I think that is how I have made it through so long without serious drugs.
