non-bpi help needed

Hey guys... I am watching a 13 yr old this summer, he has sever epilepsy and wears a helmet. We are looking for al ight weight one that he can wear while swimming... he used to not wear it in the pool but his seizures are getting worse... any advice, Im BLIND from looking at google. Thanks a bunch!!!

Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: LOBPI
no external rotation against gravity, can only go to 90 degree fwd flexion, no hand-to-mouth
1 surgery at age 14 (latissimus dorsi transfer). In 2004, at age 28 I was struck with Transverse Myelitis which paralyzed me from the chest down. I recovered movement to my right leg, but need a KAFO to walk on my left leg. I became an RN in 2008.

Do you have access to an OT? They may have an idea/access to get one.
In the meantime I'll do a little "googling" myself... I love looking for stuff!

Surgery with Dr Waters (BCH), April 1999 and in February 2012
2 more daughters, Julia (1999), Sarah(2002) born Cesarean.

These helmets are made to be used in water, not sure if it will meet your needs however.

They are more for sports activities, but look decent and also not exorbitant.

Thanks a bunch! Rich that is exactly what we found about an hour after I posted... we got a yellow one ordered, as he is a U of M fan! YEAH!! It should be here in about 2 weeks! Thanks for the help!!

I'm not sure if you have already thought of this, but I run a public pool and we recommend that seizure prone swimmers also wear a coast guard approved life jacket. It is really hard to hold a person above water during a seizure to not only protect their head, but keep their airway open as well.
