- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: January 1980 Yamaha RD200 vs 16 wheeler truck, result, 1 totally paralysed right arm. I was 21, now 54. I had no surgery, I don't regret this. Decided to totally ignore limitations (easily done aged 21) adapted very quickly to one handed life, got married, had 3 kids, worked- the effect of the injury on my life (once the pain stopped being constant) was minimal and now, aged 54, I very rarely even think of it, unless I bash it or it gets cold, then I wish I'd had it amputated :) Except for a steering knob on my car, I have no adaptations to help with life, mainly because I honestly don't think of myself as disabled and the only thing I can't do is peel potatoes, which is definitely a good thing.

Re: TBPI news article
This is the request that I send to everyone from every day people to company ceo's.It is updated from the original know that I have a place for people to donate. Not trying to be a pest,I'm just doing what ever I can.
Hello,
My name is Marshall Gravley. I live in Rockmart GA. Please take the time to read this. I have been asking everyone I can.
I am in desperate need of help.In Oct.2005 I had the bright idea to stand next to a train as it was going by. I stumbled into it as it past about 60 mph. I am alive so I can't complain!
The result was a Traumatic Brachial Plexus Injury. Usually bikers suffer this when thrown from their bikes. It has left me paralyzed from the shoulder down on the left side arm. Traumatic Brachial Plexus Injuries are of the type that need immediate medical care.
I have not had any of the major tests done that are needed to determine what operations,(or not) are needed. More often than not exploratory surgery is required to verify the extent of injury.
It's my fault I'm in this position and I know that. But know I'm left not being able to afford the medical treatment I need to get just partial use out of my arm.
I have been turned down for GA. state medicaid. Also SSI.,and disability benefits. I don't have any insurance. At the time of my accident I owned a cabinet company and the state saw that as ability to pay. I've lost my company,my house, all my assets as a result of this.
I'm not a bum. I need help. I'm constantly trying to find help, and it's not working.
If I do not get the medical care I need within the first year of injury the chances for recovery are almost non existent. There are only a hand full of hospitals in the country that are competent to work on TBPI patients.
I have applied and been turned down for charity care at the Mayo Clinic in Mn.
All I'm trying to do is get the cost or some of it covered so these doctors will see me.
I don't want to see any money. The doctors want to see the money. Please look up Traumatic Brachial Plexus Injury. I am in a desperate need for help. This is a very unforgiving injury in its own right, but without medical treatment it is almost always permanent. I have not had any spontaneous recovery at all,and the accident was seven months ago. I screwed up bad.Know I'm trying not to be left like this from know on.My Mother has set up an account for donations at U. B.& T. Bank in Rockmart GA.The account is in her name ( Cynthia Ann Gravley ).Any and all donations are welcome. An article was recently posted in the Rockmart Journal, our local paper in attempt to gain some sort of help. I am trying everything I can not to loose complete use of my arm.
Please consider this. Here's a whole list of ways to contact me. Thanks for your time.
