- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: January 1980 Yamaha RD200 vs 16 wheeler truck, result, 1 totally paralysed right arm. I was 21, now 54. I had no surgery, I don't regret this. Decided to totally ignore limitations (easily done aged 21) adapted very quickly to one handed life, got married, had 3 kids, worked- the effect of the injury on my life (once the pain stopped being constant) was minimal and now, aged 54, I very rarely even think of it, unless I bash it or it gets cold, then I wish I'd had it amputated :) Except for a steering knob on my car, I have no adaptations to help with life, mainly because I honestly don't think of myself as disabled and the only thing I can't do is peel potatoes, which is definitely a good thing.
Re: Duragesic Patch for Pain
Have you tried these patches Gianni? I'm interested as they have been around quite a few years now, yet I've never spoken to anyone who uses them. The link you provide is to the manufacturer's own site which, as usual, is sketchy on detail, especially risks. Here's a more informative link, important in this case as the opoid in these patches is 30 times stronger than methadone and there are risks. http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/drug ... 02702.html
A google search revealed lots of people very happy with pain relief for the first time in years, but also revealed some very out there side effects including full opiate withdrawal symptoms, depressed breathing and even death-but that was on a message board forum and was anecdotal. All in all you would be wanting to talk to a doctor who really knew about this drug b4 getting onto it-it can even react with very common antibiotics. It does look like it works well for those it does work for-and that's the bottom line I guess. Let us know if you try it Gianni.

Hi, this is Gianni's mom, Maureen.
Gianni was on Avinza (morphine) but did not like the side affects. He will start the patch tomorrow. He is under the care of a very well respected pain management doctor who is giving him the lowest dose for now and will increase as needed. I will let you know how he does on the drug. The doctor is confident that it is safe. I pray he is right.

Was on dura patch for 3-4 months. Very expensive. Also only got the 50's . Found out the 100's worked better but I still didn't get much relief considering the expense. I'm die-hard methadone. It just seems to work best for me.

Re: Duragesic Patch for Pain
I was on the patch for 7 months along with a ton of other stuff, the patch didn't do anything for me, except to make me even less witty then I already am, I couldn't read very well either. I would steer clear of that stuff if it was me as it had a tendency to put me on the roller coaster, now every day is just miserable-what a releif! Onepaw
