I think the most powerful thing that came out of that segment was when Lisa said "if I had only known that birthing on all fours would open the birth canal by 30%".

That is a prevention message that we want out there, we want people to hear. And if it takes someone like Lisa being willing to be portrayed in a certain way to get that word out...more power to her.

In an ideal world, Lisa would be sitting across from Dr. Phil explaining this injury and how it could be prevented, how she has managed this injury for her son, within her family, how she has helped hundreds of families navigate their own experience with this injury, BUT while that is all true, it doesn't necessarily make for good tv ratings. People tune into conflict.

I once saw an Oprah show about parenting and one mom said she loved every minute of being a mom...never felt anger or frustration. You know what the show was about? Three or so other moms ganging up on this mom saying she wasn't being truthful because they had such hard days as moms that they couldn't believe anyone could truthfully say that they loved every minute of it. Oprah even did a follow-on show about it, because they got such a response to it. The woman who seemed to be handling everything well, in a good place with herself, was made to look like the bad guy!!!

Frankly, Lisa had a better chance of getting a follow-on show with people reacting negatively to this show than positively!

I am grateful that Lisa looked at what this would mean for the big picture for the BPI community and was able to go forward with this at the risk of being portrayed for "hollywood hype".

I would hope that people in this community can see what a service Lisa was doing for our BPI kids, and instead of focusing on how she was portrayed, focus on the message that she was able to say on NATIONAL tv, that "birthing on all fours would open the birth canal by 30%".

Kudos to you Lisa!!!
