Skin irritation and brace

Post by Cara »

Rosalynn has a costume made brace that is some kind of a hard plastic substance. Recently at night she will sweat and the area around her elbow is getting irritated. (It looks like road rash) Any suggestions on what to do to stop the irritation? I have tried a thin piece of material(it only makes the sweating worse)baby powder, and applying vitamin E cream after I take it off in the morning.

Cara- how about lining the splint with some moleskin or foam (the therapist can do this) and also making sure she has a long sleeve undershirt on before you put the splint on - the slint might have to be refit for the additional material. Also - it might just be because the splint is no longer fitting correctly. So in all three ideas, the answer is really to have it rechecked by the therapist who made it.

Good luck,

Ian had this problem with his dynasplint. His therapist gave us some very thin cotten tubing that we put over his arm under the splint. It is light enough that it doesn't get too hot, and it has worked great, no more rash.
