Michaela's wearing splint!!!

Post by browning93 »

I guess all Michaela needed was a few days of splint off time. We saw Miss Leslie yesterday and she talked to Michaela about how important it is for her to wear her splint at night and we talked about the elbow problems. At bedtime last night she was ready to put it on cause she "promised Miss Leslie". Tonight also no fight. Her elbow didn't hurt bad this morning, so we're getting back into routine. We had permission for her to be without it, but I feel better having her use it at least for 3 more weeks. Maybe all her elbow needed was a little break. She is so strong-willed,I'm really surprised that all it took was a talk with another adult, I guess confirming what Mom's been fighting with her about!

Miss Leslie saw improvement and said she thought Michaela was right where she should be in recovery, and The movements will be more fluid with more therapy.

My husbands family lives in Melbourne(FL) and Miss Leslies office is there so we had a late appt for our quarterly TES eval. Then after the eval we went over to my mother in laws and spent the night. She had a stroke recently and we hadn't seen her so it was a nice visit. The stroke affected the left side of her face and speech, but not her body. Her thought processes were so slow, and it seemes that short term memory problems are progressing rapidly.Really sad when this kind of thing happens.

I wanted to add that Michaela has been using her TES since she was 4 weeks post op. Leslie McKibben changed our TES electrode positions from upper and lower arm back to upper arm and shoulder since we really need to get the shoulder stronger now. Also she asked us to get a pulley for our door for Michaela to pull up and down on the ropes and we need to get an air splint. I had made her a gator splint but she's outgrown it and Leslie felt the airsplint would be better. Guess I need to check out Francines website again for therapy catalogs!!! I'm so glad she compiled all this info!LeeAnne
