Hi there! I have a 3 year old son with OBPI in the right arm, and a seven week old daughter with OBPI in the left arm. Does anyone know how common it is for one family to have two or more children with this injury? I would love to correspond with someone about this.
Thanks!!!

Re: Moms of two or more OBPI kids...
Hi Farah - I'm very sorry to hear about this.
Have you seen this page?
http://www.injurednewborn.com
here you will find the list of risk factors for increased risk of having shoulder dystocia occur during the birth.
From what I understand, if you've encountered shoulder dystocia once, there is a very high chance of having it occur again. Most women who have a shoulder dystocia experience and an injured child have a c-section the next time around. Was this ever explained to you? Was C-section considered as an option? What did the OB say in terms of your first delivery? Was it the same OB? Can you give us more information?
How severe are your children's injuries?

Farah,
Hi I'm Cindy mom to Melanie (2 1/2) and Matthew (1 year) both robpi. I was assured that it would not happen a second time and things would be different. They were my son's injury was very severe involving phrenic nerve damage. Melanie recovered at six weeks. Matthew had nerve graft surgery in October. My e-mail address is cpfranklin@psualum.com. I know another mom in NH who has two girls with bpi as well.

Farah - I read over my post and I was really pounding you with questions! I'm so sorry. I just can't imagine having two children that are injured. I feel so badly for you and for the others who have gone through this more than once.
