Just had botox injections into pec and lats

Post by espiper »

I am tripping - I had Mod Quad a year ago and just saw Dr. Nath (who did the surgery) in Houston since I was there on a conference. He examined me - I made great gains for the first 6 months then leveled off. He confirmed something we suspected in that part of the problem now is I have co-contractions. He sent me to another specialist who did an EMG and confirmed that my pec and lats which are only supposed to fire when moving the arm down are firing in both directions - stupid muscles. I guess this is a normal compensation to stablize the arm but they never unlearned it so they are firing even when I am moving my arm up and away from my body. Very helpul!
Anyways, the solution is to shoot me full of botox which in about 2 weeks will silent these guys and allow the deltoid to work without resistance for the next 3 months. When the pec major and lats come back on line in 3 months the work appropriately - isn't that bizarre? They said it is something new and that sometimes adults need 2 treatments but usually not. They even botox you before Mod Quad surgery to correct this compensatory behavior from the get go. I am tripping! I will let you know how it goes!

Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: I am ROBPI, global injury, Horner's Syndrome. No surgery but PT started at 2 weeks old under the direction of New York Hospital. I wore a brace 24/7 for the first 11 months of my life. I've never let my injury be used as an excuse not to do something. I've approach all things, in life, as a challenge. I approach anything new wondering if I can do it. I tried so many things I might never have tried, if I were not obpi. Being OBPI has made me strong, creative, more determined and persistent. I believe that being obpi has given me a very strong sense of humor and compassion for others.

Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: LOBPI. I am 77 yrs old and never had a name for my injuries until 2004 when I found UBPN at age 66.

My injuries are: LOBPI on upper body and Cerebrael Palsy on the lower left extremities. The only intervention I've had is a tendon transplant from my left leg to my left foot to enable flexing t age 24 in 1962. Before that, my foot would freeze without notice on the side when wearing heels AND I always did wear them at work "to fit in" I also stuttered until around age 18-19...just outgrew it...no therapy for it. Also suffered from very very low self esteem; severe Depression and Anxiety attacks started at menopause. I stuffed emotions and over-compensated in every thing I did to "fit in" and be "invisible". My injuries were Never addressed or talked about until age 66. I am a late bloomer!!!!!

I welcome any and all questions about "My Journey".

Suzy,
Amazing, ditto!! It is marvelous what they are able to do today. Yes, please continue to share how it's going...also, what does it feel like?? It must feel different as an adult..versus botox in a child?...

The botox effect will take 2 weeks to kick in so expecting the muscles to go dead next week sometime. The doctor that did the EMG and injections was fabulous and hardly felt anything. I had an EMG here in Portland prior to the surgery and was practically crying it was so painful - amazing what a difference a little skill makes!
