I was speaking with Kath Mallozzi yesterday on the phone and asked her if she also, like me, had problems with her teeth aching and pulsating. She said she did, so I thought I would also ask here to see if this is just an isolated problem the two of us have or if other obpi's have it too.
Here's the situation.
Especially after coming in from the cold and getting warm, my teeth (all of them) begin to throb and ache. It is so painful that it can keep me awake at night. It usually lasts for a couple of hours.
I don't use ice in my drinks -- the cold can bring this on too.
When I am around smoke or loud noise, this also can bring it on.
My dentist said he had never heard of such a thing.
Anybody else experience this? Is it tied to the sympathetic nerve system that was affected by our injuries?

Re: tooth pain
That is really interesting how many things are involved with a brachial plexus injury. You think it is just the arm and neck and it becomes some many other issues. What does the sympathetic nerve system affect from a brachial plexus injury. My daughter gets very red and hot on the right side of her face when she eats certain foods and she is a robpi, she is 8 and it has been happing since she is little. I am wondering if you teeth hurt you when you were little or just as an adult? With by daughter I asked the doctors about her red face and they said that they never heard of it but I must tell you this injury is so frustrating because everyone is so different and I really think it has to do with her robpi!!!!!

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: LOBPI. I am 77 yrs old and never had a name for my injuries until 2004 when I found UBPN at age 66.
My injuries are: LOBPI on upper body and Cerebrael Palsy on the lower left extremities. The only intervention I've had is a tendon transplant from my left leg to my left foot to enable flexing t age 24 in 1962. Before that, my foot would freeze without notice on the side when wearing heels AND I always did wear them at work "to fit in" I also stuttered until around age 18-19...just outgrew it...no therapy for it. Also suffered from very very low self esteem; severe Depression and Anxiety attacks started at menopause. I stuffed emotions and over-compensated in every thing I did to "fit in" and be "invisible". My injuries were Never addressed or talked about until age 66. I am a late bloomer!!!!!
I welcome any and all questions about "My Journey".
There is NO SUCH THING AS A DUMB QUESTION.

Re: tooth pain
Hello All....It makes sense to me,having weird painful stuff happening ANYWHERE in our body; after all,in each individual with OBPI injuries, WHICHEVER nerves were damaged grew screwy and who knows WHERE each screwy nerve went, how MUCH each grew wherever, or if it did at all. After all, these damanged nerves are not dead, but grew screwy/in weird ways. Anyway, that's my 2 cents...ALSO, no wonder Doctors haven't heard of such strange things happening to us..DUH! there has been No Reasearch/No Documentation ANYWHERE!
