splint decoration

Post by NancyP »

We are getting ready to leave for TCH, and I was going to get the stuff to decorate Kelsey's caps splint. I can't seem to find the post that lists the supplies that work best. Any information is appreciated!!!

I have pictures of it that I will put on the web tonight... I'll come back and tell you when they're up.

You can get the foam shapes at crafts stores like Michael, etc.

I used Elmer's glitter glue also.

hi nancy - I put the pictures of Michaela up on the splint page

on this page you will see Michaela's splint and you will also see mariella's cranial band with a different kind of decoration on it..and you will also see that dynamic splint with another little one that is all decorated as well.... it'll give you some ideas

will be thinking about you guys on Monday and praying,
hope you have a safe trip,

Thanks Francine! Kelsey will love this. We leave in the morning. We are going to stop in Dallas on the way to do something fun before surgery. I will post when we get back.

The fun foam decorations can be found at most craft stores. I got them at Michael's. At first I sewed them on but that was a bit much. Then I realized that velcro would work. Duh! Half the splint is velcro!LOL We used glue make layered flowers and a name plate, etc., and put self stick velcro on the back and then Michaela could decorate her splint everyday any way she wanted. Some days she wore all some just a few.Pull them off if you need to wash the splint straps. I washed the splint straps in a lingerie bag in the washing machine and let them air dry and that worked great instead of doing them by hand. I'm so glad Francine put them in her site.

Now as I'm typing, I'm thinking this might be a good art activity to do while in the hospital. The supplies aren't very big and can be packed in a ziploc bag.Now I wish I'd thought of this before our trip. Live and learn, LOL!!
