Renewed pain w/Flu

Post by babyryd »

Hi all,
My son Chase (age 8,LTBPI), has had the flu for the better part of this week with temps in the 103 range (I had it too - it's bad!). He's no longer feverish, but his pain in his hand is back in full force as it was just after his injury. He's only been taking neurontin 2x/day (400 mg) and we've decided to increase it again begining today to see if it helps. I've read many TBPIs have more pain w/stress - has anyone experienced pain increase w/illness as well? Any suggestions on how to help him?
Thanks,
Lourdes

Hi Lourdes,

I am so sorry to hear that Chase is experiencing more pain. I know if I get 'flu, all of me feels bad, and the arm pain seems to increase. It actually probably isn't, since when I am ill, I tend to go into hibernation mode and not do anYthing, so the pain is far more noticeable. There's no distraction to stop it.

Hopefully, when he is up and around and doing all the normal things his pain will reduce again. I hope so, it does with me anyway.

All the best

Hi Lourdes:

The answer in my case is an emphatic YES! Any stress to my body causes an elevation in my pain. My injury was a broken neck which left both arms, hands, shoulders and chest affected. What helps me the most is warmth. If I place one of those - heat in the microwave - bead-filled pillows and place it around the nerve root where my injury occurs, it gives me some short term relief. At least long enough for me to get back on top of the pain with meds. Hopes this helps. God bless.
