help

Post by admin »

I took my daughter to the shriners hospital in Philadelphia a couple of weeks ago to see Dr. Kozin. He said he could help my daughter's hand. Going to do a nerve transfer and some botox. We have surgery scheduled for May 4th. We have to go back up there for the surgery and then go back a few weeks later for cast removal and therapy. I contacted our local shriners for help getting us back up there and he tried to talk me into taking her to Shreveport or to Chicago. I told him I had already taken her to Philly for an evaluation and loved Dr. Kozin and that I have never heard of anybody doing this kind of surgery at the hospital in Shreveport. When I asked him about flying us up there he told me I had to contact Angel Flight. I thought the Shriners would help do that stuff for you? Anybody know anything I can do? I live in south Alabama and I paid for our tickets up there for the first visit. He also offered to drive us up there but that is to far to go driving. My daughter is 10yrs old.

Thanks,
Janalee

I don't understand him asking you to do that......Chicago has a shriners, but from my understanding......they have no BPI surgeons. I tried taht several years ago. Try again, because you may have gotten a SHRINER that was grouchy. If you went to see Dr. Kozin, they should let you finish up with Dr. Kozin. I wouldn't drive either.......that is a long way !

Janalee, not only is Dr. Kozin a bpi specialist but he is first and foremost a HAND specialist. I would highly recommend that you contact Dr. Kozin directly and he will help you navigate the Shriners travel portion.

Hi, my daughter had nerve transfer surgery with Dr. Kozin in Dec. We are located in NC, also too far to drive. I contacted my local Shriner, who paid for the flights for the evaluations and surgery. I agree with a previous post about calling and talking to another person. Also you should call Susan Shailey, transportation department at the Philly Shriners. Her number is (215) 430- 4177. She arranged our hotel and cabs while we were there. She might have a suggestion about your airfares. Hope that helps,

I was passed on to Angel Flight to get help getting us to the shriners hospital in Philadelphia. They don't fly that far. The lady at the hospital told me to call some guy from South Carolina. This seems to be getting so complicated.

We live in Florida, I applied to the local shrinners & then went to philly. The local shriner paid for our flight. They seemed confused but, I insisted on seeing Kozin. Most of the shriners are so nice, I got a local sponser. I just poured my heart out to them & explained how important it was for us to go to philly. Now the second time we drove from fl to philly. Not fun! But, what I am saying is that there are people even local shriners who will help, you just have to search for them.

Many bpi doctors are hand specialists, it just depends on how much bpi experience they have. I would trust a hand specialist with bpi experience.
