Hi Sara, my daughter 8 yrs old had the lastissiums dorsi and treys major transfer to her rotator cuff in January. First she wore a half body cast with arm up in air for 6 weeks and then a splint went on for another bit of time. She did very well with the recovery and was able to stop wearing the splint during the daytime after only a couple of weeks. I was amazed and thrilled how fast she recoverd and with not much complaining also. She continued to wear the splint at night time for an entire 6 weeks. The results came quickly and continue to do so. She can put her arm behind her head, lift it up into the air, hang on monkey bars and swing from bar to bar ( only about 3 bars so far ). She is riding her 2 wheel bike also. All of these things are new movements that she could not do before. It is amazing and wonderful. I highly recommend this surgery.

My daugther had a muscle transfer at 2 1/2 years old in Boston with Dr Waters.
She wore a Spica cast for 5 weeks after surgery. After the cast was removed we did no splinting. She was in major pain for several days after. It was worth every second b/c today she has amazing results. She can touch the back of her head/neck. She has better external rotation. She can almsot get behind her back. Amazing, Amazing, Amazing is all I can say about this surgery. I would do it again in a second for the results we see today. I have picture if you want to see them email me. Ldybug4134@aol.com
Good luck.

Dawn, my son, Justin had the tendon transfer surgery with Dr. Waters when he was 21/2. That was 4 years ago. He has done great since then. I know you are very nervous as I was too. Depending on how old your son is, will depend on how much you should tell him. When they are that young they don't understand what is going on. The staff was wonderful. Good luck and please feel free to email me if you want more info.
