Just tried driving training today...

Post by diargasm »

I was able to use my bpi arm to switch from the stick from park to reverse to drive with ease. But my driving was really atrocious. Sometimes I forget to hold the wheel at the bottom left corner to get a maximum turn, and that leads me to struggle midway to the turn. I had problems looking at the 3 sides whenever I made signals. I don't know if it's just me, but looking back by turning your neck is much more dangerous than signalling without looking.

Anyways, I am going on main streets tomorrow. I'm kind of nervous about, hopefully it goes well.

Yea, today was actually much better. I have no problem turning with just my left hand on an intersection. The only problem are parking lots where precisioin is key. I use my bpi arm to hold the wheel as I turn it with my left hand. The gear stick on my driver's training car was easy for m e because all I had to do was push the button in and move it forwards or back. My mom's lexus however is more tricky. The stick needs to go to the right and all sorts of directions to put the car in drive or reverse. I have trouble moving my arm out against gravity alone, with resistence it is impossible. So I had to use my left arm to change that.

Anyways, I am going to go on highways on tuesday, I'm a little nervous about that.

Hi Andre, you could try using a steering ball like this one http://www.mobilityconversions.co.uk/qu ... ease_2.htm It would make life a lot easier for you. I know of several lorry drivers here in the UK who use steering balls similar to this one. They don't have any injuries to the arm, but find these things easier to use on long haul.

Good luck with the driving!
