WOW, Recipies and cookbooks 4 the one handed. I guess it has been awhile since I actually let myself B one handed. When I first found myself alone with the need to open a can, having only a old fashioned hand cranker, I thought i would go insane or starve. I beat on it with a hammer, could'nt get a nail in,( would'nt stand up)and cryed in frustration. Then I used my opener like you would a sissors. It went slowly, but I ate. The proudest part was getting the soup can open! (P.S.your doing a really nice thing.)

hi ellen,

my boyfriend has bilateral bpi and he loves to cook. and he's one of the best cooks i've ever met too - everything he makes is YUmmy!

i thought about how he does it - he's just adapted his hands so much - using the sides of his hands, etc. twisty ties are hard for him so i should buy him some clips - you know the kind for chips, or anything else you want to seal up in a bag.

also, he has a neat pepper grinder that is more like a single hole punching action than turning a pepper mill - i think it's that company xoxo that makes it - i can find out for you if you want. if your son likes to grind pepper on things, or just have the option, it's a great thing.

the suction grater idea is great - i'm going to buy it for him - grating is something he hasn't been able to do much of.

thanks!

Hi Pia,

I think I know the pepper mill - is it one that looks kind of like rabbit ears on the top, & you squeeze them together to grind the pepper?

Thanks for any & all ideas!

What is bilateral bpi? I've not heard of it...

Ellen

hi ellen,
yes that's the one that you squeeze together..rabbit ears, yes :) it has a magnet on one side and sticks nicely to the hood above the oven, etc. cute and practical! definitely recommend it.
